     Also called Sir John Baynton Knt., M.P..⁴ Arms: Sable, a bend lozengy argent.⁵ Sir John Baynton of Falston was born circa 1407 at England.⁶ He was the son of Nicholas de Baynton Knt. and Joan de la Roche.^2,3 Sir John Baynton of Falston was four when his maternal grandmother died in 1411.⁶ He married Joan Dudley, daughter of Sir Richard Dudley of Clopton.^3,7 "When Sir John became of age, he inherited a considerable fortune from his late grandmother, Wilhelma de la Mare – the widow of Sir John Roche."³ Sir John Baynton of Falston became of age in 1428. He received the Manor of Chyreton, in the county of Gloucester; the Manor of Lavington and the Manor of Shaw, in the county of Wiltshire and the Manor of Haun; the Manor of Preston and the Manor of Tarrant Gundeville, in the county of Dorset. These manors were duly inherited from his grandmother, as laid out in Wilhelma de la Mare's will, dated 1411.^8,3 Sheriff of Wiltshire at England in 1430.^6,3 He was knighted in 1434.³ He was living at temp. Henry VI.¹ Member of Parliament for Wiltshire at England in 1445/46.^6,3 He died after 1447.³

     Dorcas Paine was born on 29 July 1724 at Smithfield, Providence County, Rhode Island.^1,3 She was the daughter of Benjamin Paine and Elizabeth Owen.^2,3 Dorcas Paine married James Applebee of Smithfield, son of James Applebee and Ann Clemence, say 1741 at Smithfield, Providence County, Rhode Island.¹

     Elizabeth Owen was born say 1700 at Providence County, Rhode Island.² She was the daughter of Josiah Owen Sr. and Hannah Belcher.² Elizabeth Owen married Benjamin Paine, son of John Paine of Rehoboth and Elizabeth Belcher, on 14 August 1719 at Smithfield, Providence County, Rhode Island.³

     Elizabeth Belcher was born on 10 July 1663 at Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.^2,3 She was the daughter of Josiah Belcher of Boston and Ranis Rainsford.^1,2 Elizabeth Belcher married John Paine of Rehoboth, son of Stephen Paine of Rehoboth and Anne Chickering, on 3 February 1679/80 at Rehoboth, Massachusetts.⁴

     Ann Clemence was born on 11 December 1690 at Providence, Rhode Island.² She was the daughter of Richard Clemence of Providence and Sarah Smith.^1,2 Ann Clemence married James Applebee.^3,1 Ann Clemence was recognized in the will of Richard Clemence of Providence on 2 January 1720/21 at Providence, Rhode Island; Clemence, Richard of Providence, yeoman, being now grown in years. Mentions: my ancient [unnamed] mother living. Wife Sarah Clemence. Sons Thomas Clemence and Richard Clemence. Daughtera Ann Applebey, Sarah Angel, and Abigail Thornton. My two grandchildren James Applebey under 21 and Ann Applebey under 18 and unmarried. Witnesses: William Hopkins, Joseph Smith, James Olney.¹

     Sarah Whipple was baptized on 6 February 1641/42 at Dorchester, Massachusetts.¹ She was the daughter of Captain John Whipple and Sarah, Goodwife Whipple.¹ Sarah Whipple married John Smith of Providence, son of John Smith, the Miller and Alice (?), circa 1662.¹ Sarah Whipple was recognized in the will of Captain John Whipple; In his will, dated 8 May 1682 and proved 27 May 1685, John Whipple Sr. of Providence "being in a great measure of health ... having many children & to prevent all differences that otherwise may hereafter arise ... having formerly given unto three of my sons all my lands ... namely Samuell, Eliazer, & William equally to be divided among them ... only excepting thirty acres which I gave unto my son John at the northwest end"; to "my three aforenamed sons, namely Samuell, Eliazer & William, each of them a quarter part of one right of commoning for pasturing, cutting of timber, & firewood"; to "my son Benjamin a right of lands in the late division which is already laid out"; to "my son David a right of lands in the late division which is already laid out unto him"; to "my son Jonathan twenty-five acres on which he now dwelleth"; to "my son Jonathan one division of lands"; to "my son Joseph my dwelling house & my three home lots & the garden next the river, also a six acre lot ... also twenty acres near Thomas Clemence his dwelling, also I give unto my son Joseph my share of meadow near Solletarey Hill & two six acre lots ... also a five acre lot lying near where William Wickenden formerly dwelt; also one division beyond the Seven Mile Line ... also I do give unto my son Joseph all other divisions which shall hereafter belong unto two rights throughout"; to "my sons John, Samuell, Eliazer, William, Benjamin, David & Jonathan unto these seven twelve pence to every of them"; to "my three daughters (namely) Sarah, Mary & Abigall unto every of them ten shillings"; to "my son Joseph all my right of lands in the Narragansett Country"; to "my son Joseph" residue; "my son Joseph my executor". Thomas Olney deposed that he had gone to John Whipple, at his request, and obtained clarification of some of the bequests.¹

     Stephen Paine of Rehoboth was born on 29 September 1629 at Norfolk, England.² He was the son of Stephen Paine of Hingham and Rose (?).¹ Stephen Paine of Rehoboth married Anne Chickering, daughter of Francis Chickering of Dedham and Ann Fiske, on 3 November 1652; Her 1st.^3,4 Stephen Paine of Rehoboth was established at Watertown in 1654 at Massachusetts.¹ He was a tanner.¹

     Stephen Paine of Hingham was born say 1598 at England. He married Rose (?).¹ Stephen Paine of Hingham was from Great Ellingham, near Attleburg at Norfolk, England.¹ He lived in 1638 at Hingham, Massachusetts.¹ He immigrated to Boston, Massachusetts, arriving 10 October 1638; He arrived on the "Diligent," with wife Rose, three children, and four servants.¹ He was made Freeman on 6 June 1639.¹ He relocated in 1645; Rehoboth.¹

     Mary Kirton of Thorpe Mandeville was granddaughter to two aldermen of London, Stephen Kirton and John Sadler, great-granddaughter of a Sheriff of the city, Nicholas Leveson, and was both niece and great niece of Lord Mayors: Sir Nicholas Woodruff and Sir William Hewett. "In 1985, James Rasmussen published a detailed account of the English ancestry of Edward Rainsford. (Footnote 1: Register, 139 (1985): 225-38, 296-315.) Rasmussen duly observed that an earlier researcher, Frank Allaben, had claimed a royal line for the immigrant through the ancestry of his mother, Mary Kirton. (Footnote 2: Allaben's material was published posthumously in "The Journal of American History," 23 (1934): 89-94.) Rasmussen dismissed the alleged line, however, because it didn't "appear to be substantiated," no evidence having been found that the mother of Mary Kirton's ancestor, Robert White, was "Alice Hungerford." (Footnote 3: Register, 139 (1985): 228.) Following publication of Rasmussen's article, I was engaged by Jon Clark of Detroit to research Edward Rainsford's ancestry further. As part of this assignment, I examined available records for the Kirton and White families, including those pertaining to the alleged White-Hungerford connection. New evidence was discovered that I believe proves the supposed weak link in the alleged royal line.⁴ She was born circa 1577.³ She was the daughter of Thomas Kirton of Thorpe Mandeville and Marie Sadler.^2,3 Mary Kirton of Thorpe Mandeville married Robert Raynesford of Staverton, Esq., son of Richard Raynesford, on 14 December 1602 at Croyden, England.^1,3

     Thomas Kirton of Thorpe Mandeville was of Thorpe Mandeville at Northamptonshire, England.² He was born say 1535.² He was the son of Stephen Kirton, Alderman of London and Margaret Offley.² Thomas Kirton of Thorpe Mandeville married Marie Sadler, daughter of John Sadler, Alderman of London, on 19 February 1559/60 at St. Andrew Undershaft, London, England.^1,2
