The Petit Arms website says she married an English soldier named Skidmore after 1663, the date the English occupied New Netherland, and that they have descendants in Somerset County, N. J.. A Skidmore family site says that Thomas Skidmore, the first Skidmore in America, was born at Mayshill, Westerleigh, Gloustershire, England, about 1605, first married Ellen, who was born about 1605 at Wyne Valley, Heereford, England, secondly Joanna Baldwin, the widow of Nathaniel Baldwin after 1658, and thirdly Sarah Keeler, the widow of Ralph Keeler, Edward Treadwell and Edward Whelpey. From this I discount the marriage to Skidmore for Sarah Petit.1,3 She was not the daughter of John Pettit and Sarah Scofield as the Skillman history suggests. The daughter of John and Sarah was born in 1666 per the Stamford history cited by Skillman, and per History of Old Fairfield.4 Sara Pettit was daughter of John Petit & Sarah Scofield, his wife.5 She was daughter of John Pettit, Newtown. She was born in 1648? At Boston, Massachusetts Bay Colony. She was the daughter of Sergeant Thomas Pettit and Christian Mellowes.2,1 Sara Pettit married Captain Thomas Skillman in 1669.4,6 Sara Pettit married Cornelis Breese before 1 April 1696; Her 2nd (widow).4 Cornelius Breese & Sarah his wife sell to Thomas Killman part of property bequeathed to them by Thomas Killman. At Newton, Long Island, New York, on 1 April 1696.7 Sara Pettit was transferred a fourth part of her late husband's estate, the "housing, lands, meadows, and orchards, rights, privileges, advantages, hereditaments and appurtenances thereunto belonging and in any wise appertaining" to their only son, Thomas on 1 April 1699.4 She died after 1704 at Newton, Queens County, New York.8

Mårten Mårtensson Sr.1

b. circa 1606, d. 31 May 1706
Also called Morton Mortonson Sr.. Also called Marten Martensson. Mårten Mårtensson Sr. was born circa 1606 at Finland.2,1 He immigrated to America on the "Eagle" and arrived on 22 May 1654 at Fort Christina, Delaware.2 He was among the "new freemen" pledging loyalty to Governor Rising on 9 June 1654 at Tmicum Island.2 He pledged allegiance to the Dutch after their capture of the fort in September 1655 at Fort Trinity (now New Castle), Delaware.2 He soon grew dissatisfied with living under Dutch rule, and moved to join the other Finnish settlers who'd resettled elsewhere after September 1655 at Ammansland (Ridley Township), Chester County, Pennsylvania, America.2 He married N. N. (?) before 1662 at Ammansland (Ridley Township), Chester County, Pennsylvania; His 2nd. Mårten Mårtensson Sr. lived in 1677 at Ammansland (Ridley Township), Chester County, Pennsylvania.2 He married Helena (?) after 1683; Probably his 3rd. Her 2nd.2,1 Mårten Mårtensson Sr. was one of the signers of the Swedes' letter to Sweden, requesting new ministers and Swedish Bibles, using the same distinctive mark as appears on the 1654 oath of allegiance to Rising, in 1693.2

In 1693, Mårten Mårtensson Sr. was Head of Household on the census at Ammansland, Ridley Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania, Details provided: A member of the Wicaco Congregation. Property valued at £50.. Enumerated with him were Matthias Mårtensson Sr., Anna Gustafsdotter Justis, Helena (?), Anders Mårtensson, Anders Morton and Mårten Morton.1

Mårten Mårtensson Sr. pledged £1.10 per year for minister Rudman's salary in 1697.2 He probably had three wives during his lifetime. This is inferred from the gap in ages between his two eldest sons and his four younger children. He left a will in May 1703; In lieu of a will, he signed two deeds dividing his lands between his two youngest sons. The home plantation (the Morton Homestead) was given to his son Matthias "for taking care and maintaining of me and my wife during the remainder of our natural lives." The rest of Mårten's lands at Ammansland and on Raccoon Creek were divided between Matthias and Andrew.2 He died on 31 May 1706 at Ammansland, Ridley Township, Chester County, Philadelphia. Said to be 100 years old at his death.2,1 He was related to John Morton (Signer); the 2nd cousin, 8x removed (via Marten Martensson, 1606-1706), of the compiler.
