Alexander de Nevill was born circa 1330. He was the son of Ralph, 2nd Lord Neville of Raby and Alice de Audley.2 Archbishop of York between 1374 and 1388.2 Alexander de Nevill was a vigorous Prince of the Church who freely used the weapons of suspension and excommunication, "was on of the trusted friends of Richard II".2 He was a witness where Sir William de Nevill sided with the Lords Appelant against the Court Party (and his own older brother Alexander) in 1388.2 Alexander de Nevill was translated by Pope Urban VI, at the request of the Lords Appelant, to the titular see of St. Andrews, which the Pope deemed a mockery, as Scotland then recognized the anti-Pope.2 He was outlawed, for being a leading statesman of the Court Party, by the King's enemies in the "Merciless Parliament" in 1387/88.2 He died on 16 May 1392 at Louvain, Belgium. He died in exile as a parish priest.2 He had his memory cleared and his true loyalty officially declared on the King's restoration to power in 1397.2
