Second son of Thomas and Margery Thayer, married Huldah Hayward, of Braintree, Mass., 14 January, 1652. He lived in Braintree until after his father's death, when he removed to Mendon, Mass., with a colony from Braintree and Weymouth, where many of their descendants now (1873) live.7 Ferdinando Tayer of Mendon and Huldah Hayward of Braintree were an ancestor of U.S. President William Howard Taft.8 Ferdinando Tayer of Mendon was baptized on 18 April 1625 at St. Mary's, Thornbury Parish, Gloucestershire, England; Godfathers: Ferdinando Tayer, William Tayer. Godmother: Margarett King.9,10,5,11,12,13 He was the son of Thomas Tayer of Braintree and Margery Wheeler.1,2,3,4,5,6 Ferdinando Tayer of Mendon immigrated to Massachusetts arriving 1637; Came to America with his mother and father, settling originally in Braintree.14 He accompanied the immigration of Thomas Tayer of Braintree on 8 April 1637 to New England; He and his family arrived in America on the "Blessing" captained by John Devine, which evidently brought them to Boston Harbor.15,14,3,16 Ferdinando Tayer of Mendon married Huldah Hayward of Braintree, daughter of William Hayward of London and Margery Knight, on 14 January 1652/53 at 11th mo., Braintree, Suffolk County, Massachusetts; Married by Mr. Tory of Weymouth.10,17,18,2,19,14,3,4,5,11,20,13 The first settlers from Braintree arrive at the Plantation granted at Netmocke in 1663 at Mendon, Massachusetts.21 Ferdinando Tayer of Mendon was chosen to settle the newly established town of Mendon in September 1663.22,21 He was assigned co-executor, with his mother, of his father's estate on 21 June 1664 at Braintree, Suffolk County, Massachusetts Colony, New England.23 He witnessed the will of Thomas Tayer of Braintree on 21 June 1664 at Braintree, Suffolk County, Massachusetts Colony, New England; "I, Thomas Thayer, of Braintree, in the County of Suffolk, in the Massachusetts Colony, of New England, shoe maker, being in perfect health and memory, praised be to God, this 21 of June, A. D. 1664, doe make this last Will and Testament..." To his wife Margery "... all my lands, goods and estate, whatsoever, situate, lying and being in Braintree." To his son Thomas "... all that my ground lying and being over the Monotoquott River, within the limits of the said town of Braintree." To his son Ferdinanda "... my house and orchard thereunto belonging, lying, and being in Braintree." To his son Shadrach "... a parcel of ground in Braintree."10,23 Ferdinando Tayer of Mendon resided with his parents in Braintree, Mass., until after the death of his father, when he and others removed to a new plantation, called Nipmug, afterwards called Mendon circa 1665 at Worcester County, Massachusetts.24 He witnessed (or was recognized by) the probate of the estate of Thomas Tayer of Braintree on 13 September 1665 at Braintree, Massachusetts; Beq. to wife and sons.10,6 Ferdinando Tayer of Mendon was one of the first proprietors of the town, granted a forty acre lot after 15 May 1667 at Mendon, Massachusetts.25 He was made Selectman at the first town meeting, to order the prudential affairs of the Freemen and inhabitants, on 7 June 1667 at Mendon, Massachusetts.21,4 He lived at Mendon, Massachusetts; "Below Puffer's on what is now the Providence Road, there were probably no inhabitants. But coming toward the village we pass the cabin of Ferdinando Thayer who wrote his name with two small f's instead of a capital letter, and who, tradition says, was a renowned wrestler."26

Between 14 July 1675 and 1676 at King Philip's War, Massachusetts, America.26 He witnessed the destruction of the town by the indians, of the church records, and the records of his children's births, during the fighting in King Philip's War between 14 July 1675 and 1676 at Mendon, Worcester County, Massachusetts.24 He returned to Mendon following the Indian war and took lands, including a forty acre house-lot on 26 May 1686.4 He married Ann Freeberry; His 2nd (widower?).29 Ferdinando Tayer of Mendon was a grantee of land by the indians, John & Amos Awasamog, heirs of John Awasamog on 19 February 1691/92 at Mendon, Massachusetts.30 He died on 28 March 1713 at Mendon, Worcestor County, Massachusetts, at age 87 years, 11 months and 10 days.24,2,4,5,6,13,31 He held many offices of honor in his town and commonwealth; was a man of wealth in his day and age of the world, and his sons were all provided with farms by him, and several of his sons became extensive land dealers, and many of their descendants occupy those farms to this day (1873), and have never changed names in title for over two hundred years. At Mendon, Worcester County, Massachusetts, New England.24 A monument dedicated to the first settlers; George Aldrich's name is 2nd on the monument, and Ferdinando Thayer's is 1st.
