     St. Thomas de Cantilupe, Bishop of Hereford was well connected, an academic with anti-royalist views, litigious, a greedy pluralist, a misogonist and an anti-semite, in other words a fairly typical product of the socially superior and intellectually advance clergy of the thirteenth century.² He was the nephew of Walter, Bishop of Worcester.² He was so described: a red-faced, ginger-haired man, with a large nose.³ Also called Thomas Cantelupe.⁴ He was born circa 1218.² He was the son of William de Cantilupe and Millicent de Gournay.¹ Bishop of Hereford at England between 1275 and 1282.² St. Thomas de Cantilupe, Bishop of Hereford died on 25 August 1282 at Orvieto, Italy.
