He hired the Catalan Company, a group of mercenaries led by Roger de Flor, to fight for the Duchy against the Byzantine successor states of Epirus and Nicaea, but in 1311 they overthrew Walter and took over the Duchy, making Catalan the official language and replacing the French and Byzantine-derived laws Principality of Achaea with the laws of Catalonia.3,4 Duke of Athens at Principality of Achaea, Latin Empire of Constantinople, between 1308 and 1311.1,5,4 He was the predecessor of Jeanne de Châtillon, Duchess of Athens; Duchess of Athens.4 Gauthier V, comte de Brienne & de Liches died on 15 March 1311 at Kephissos. Feast of the Swan: Edward I, king of England, knighted his son Edward II at Westminster Abbey. The prince served his vigil, was knighted in private by the king, and then himself knighted the other 260 men who were accorded the accolade at the same time. And "all given splendid robes (of purple satin, fine linen and robes sewn with the finest gold) and Westminster Abbey rang with the clamour of trumpets and shouts of joy." At the feast following, the king had two swans brought in, swearing ‘before God and the swans’ to ‘avenge the death John Comyn of Badenock and to fight the infidels in the Holy Land. On 22 May 1306 at Westminster Abbey, London, England. He was knighted by the Prince of Wales (the future Edward II) with some 260 other young noblemen and "all given splendid robes and Westminster Abbey rang with the clamour of trumpets and shouts of joy" on 22 May 1306 at Westminster Abbey, London, England. 4th Earl of Cornwall at England between 1307 and 1312.1,2 He married Margaret de Clare, daughter of Gilbert "the Red Earl" (de Clare), 6th Earl of Gloucester and Hertford and Joan (of Acre), Countess of Gloucester and Hertford, on 1 November 1307.      John, 1st Lord Hastings was born on 6 May 1262 at Allesley, Warwickshire, England.1 He was the son of Sir Henry de Hastinges and Joan de Cantelou.1 John, 1st Lord Hastings married Isabel de Valence, daughter of Guillaume "de Valence", comte de Pembroc and Joan de Munchensy, at Braxted, Essex, or Blunham, Bedfordshire, England.2 John, 1st Lord Hastings claimed a third part of the Kingdom of Scotland, as grandson and heir of Ada, 4th daughter and co-heir of David, Earl of Huntingdon, in 1292.1 He had his claim to Scotland rejected by the judgement delivered at Berwick Castle on Monday after St. Martin on 17 November 1292.1 Arms: Or, a maunch gules.3 He married Isabel le Despencer, daughter of Hugh "the Elder", Lord Le Despencer and Lady Isabel de Beauchamp; His 2nd.4 John, 1st Lord Hastings died after 28 February 1312/13.5

     John "Toom Tabard", King of Scotland was a witness where Ada de Baliol daughter and heiress of Hugh de Baliol, and grand-aunt of John Baliol, King of Scotland.4 John "Toom Tabard", King of Scotland also went by the name of John "Empty Coat".2 Also called King John of Scotland. He was born circa 1250.3,2 He was the son of John de Baliol and Devorgilla of Galloway.1,3 Arms: Gules an orle argent.5 John "Toom Tabard", King of Scotland married Isobel de Warenne, daughter of John de Warenne, 7th Earl of Surrey and Alix de Lusignan, on 7 February 1280/81.3 John "Toom Tabard", King of Scotland was one of thirteen possible successors, as the 5th great-grandson of Duncan I, of the late Queen Margaret of Scotland, between 1290 and 1292.6 Competition for the Scottish Crown, which John de Baliol won, Robert Bruce was runner-up, decided by Edward I of England. Between 26 September 1290 and 17 November 1292.3 He was the eldest surving son of John de Baliol, and Devorgilla of Galloway, in 1292.3 He was selected by Edward I of England to succeed his 3rd cousin, once removed, Margaret, daughter of Eric II of Norway and Margaret, daughter of Alexander III. On 17 November 1292.3 King of Scotland between 17 November 1292 and 10 July 1296.3,2 He was enthroned on 30 November 1292 at Scone, Scotland.3,2 He acknowledged Edward I as Lord Paramount, and this was followed by a succession of indignities, which goaded him into resistance, and he was compelled to resign the crown on 10 July 1296.3 After John Baliol's deposition, there followed Edward I of England's subjugation of Scotland, and two struggles for independence, the first under Sir William Wallace, the second, successful, under Robert the Bruce. On 10 July 1296.3 He died circa April 1313 at Normandy, France.3,2 John "Toom Tabard", King of Scotland was buried in St. Waast, Normandy, France.2
