Richard, Duke of York was the grandson of Edmund of Langley.1 Arms: Quarterly, first, Quarterly France modern and England, a label of five points argent the two dexter points charged with lions rampant purpure and the three sinister points each with three torteaux; second and third, Burgh; fourth, Mortimer.3 He succeeded his uncle, Edward, to become the 3rd Duke of York. Also called Richard "of York" Plantagenet. He was born on 21 September 1411. He was the son of Richard, "of Conisburgh," Earl of Cambridge and Anne de Mortimer.2 Arms: England, label argent on each point 3 torteaux.4 3rd Duke of York between 25 October 1415 and 30 December 1460. Richard, Duke of York inherited the lands, titles, and potential claim to the throne of England (through descent from Lionel, Duke of Clarence) of his uncle, Edmund Mortimer, 5th Earl of March, 3rd Earl of Ulster, in 1425.5 He was created Earl of March by King Henry VI in 1425. Earl of March in 1425.2 He was nominated into the Order of the Garter, #148, on 22 April 1433.1 He married Cecily "the Rose of Raby", daughter of Ralph, 1st Earl of Westmoreland and Joan Beaufort, Lady Ferrers de Wemme, in 1438.6 Richard, Duke of York led the Yorkist faction at the outbreak of the Wars of the Roses circa 1445. Lord Lieutenant of Ireland between 1447 and 1457.1 He was the first to use the surname Plantagenet since Geoffrey of Anjou, and did so to emphasise that his claim to the throne was stronger than that of Henry VI in 1448.7 War of Roses - Lancaster defeats York. A large Lancastrian force attacks the Duke of Yorks castle of Sandal outside Wakefield. Lancastrians were victorious and the Duke, and his young son Edmund, were killed. On 30 December 1460 at Wakefield, Yorkshire, England. He died on 30 December 1460 at Wakefield, Yorkshire, England, at age 49 years, 3 months and 9 days. He died in battle against the Lancastrians shortly after being named heir to the throne.8,1

Humphrey, 6th Earl of Stafford, 1st Duke of Buckingham married Anne Neville, daughter of Ralph, 1st Earl of Westmoreland and Joan Beaufort, Lady Ferrers de Wemme, before 18 October 1424 at Raby, Durham, England; With issue.4,3 Humphrey, 6th Earl of Stafford, 1st Duke of Buckingham was nominated into the Order of the Garter, #145, on 22 April 1429.1 War of Roses - Yorkists advance on dug-in Lancastrians who partly defect and it turns into a massacre of Lancastrians. The dead included the Duke of Buckingham, Earl of Shrewsbury and Viscount Beaumont. The Yorkists recaptured King Henry. On 10 July 1460 at Northampton, England. He died on 10 July 1460 at the Battle of Northampton, England, at age 57 years, 10 months and 25 days. He was killed in battle, fighting as a Lancastrian.1,3 War of Roses - Lancaster defeats York. A large Lancastrian force attacks the Duke of Yorks castle of Sandal outside Wakefield. Lancastrians were victorious and the Duke, and his young son Edmund, were killed. On 30 December 1460 at Wakefield, Yorkshire, England. He died on 30 December 1460 at the Battle of Wakefield, Yorkshire, England, at age 58 years, 4 months and 15 days. He was not killed in this battle. The Duke of Buckingham is among the known dead of Northampton, fought in July of this year.5 Humphrey, 6th Earl of Stafford, 1st Duke of Buckingham was buried in St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, England. His Order of the Garter stall plate is in South 17.1

Arms: Gules, a saltire argent differenced with a label of three points in azure and argent.2 Richard "Prudence", Earl of Salisbury bore his paternal arms, Gules a Saltire Argent, which, as a cadet, he differenced with a label of three points in the Lancastrian colors of silver and blue, a reference to his mother, Joan Beaufort, the legitmated daughter of John of Gaunt.2 He was constituted by the Yorkists as Lord Great Chamberlain of England.3 Also called Earl, 5th of Salisbury.4 He was born in 1400.5 He was the son of Ralph, 1st Earl of Westmoreland and Joan Beaufort, Lady Ferrers de Wemme.1 Richard "Prudence", Earl of Salisbury was the successor of Thomas de Montagu, 4th Earl of Salisbury; 4th Earl of Salisbury. Richard "Prudence", Earl of Salisbury inherited, on the death of Thomas Montagu, Earl of Salisbury, the Salisbury and Monthermer titles and arms (Quarterly Argent, three fusils conjoined in fess gules and Gold an Eagle displayed Vert) through his wife, who was Earl Thomas' heir, and these he quartered with precedence before his own paternal coat in 1428.2 He married Alice, Countess of Salisbury, daughter of Thomas de Montagu, 4th Earl of Salisbury and Lady Eleanor, in 1428.5,6,1 5th Earl of Salisbury at England between 1428 and 1460.4 Richard "Prudence", Earl of Salisbury was nominated into the Order of the Garter, #152, on 22 April 1438.4 He was a witness where Henry VI "of Windsor", King of England celebrated his coming-of-age by creating some new peers, including Richard Neville, Earl of Salisbury and John Talbot, Earl of Shrewsbury, (Talbot's second son became Lord Lisle), in 1442. Richard "Prudence", Earl of Salisbury was created Earl of Salisbury by King Henry VI on 4 May 1442.7 Lord Chancellor at England in 1454/55.4 He died on 31 December 1460 at age 60 years. He was captured at Wakefield and beheaded for siding with the Yorkists. His head was fixed upon a gate of the city of York.7,4,6 Richard "Prudence", Earl of Salisbury was buried in St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, England. His Order of the Garter Stall Plate is in South 11.4

Owen Tudor was served time in prison, and paid a fine £2000, for his "disgraceful" liaison with Queen Katherine, following her death in 1437. War of the Roses - York defeats Lancaster. Earl of March and the Yorkists defeat the Lancastrians. Sir Owen Tudor, [father of Pembroke], and Wiltshire were captured as the Lancastrians fled and beheaded while Pembroke escaped. On 2 February 1461 at Mortimer's Cross, Herefordshire, England.2 He died on 2 February 1461 at Herefordshire, England. He was beheaded after the Yorkist victory at Mortimer's Cross.3

War of Roses - York defeats Lancaster. Larger Lancastrian force attacks a Yorkist, weather, chance, and the later arrival of the Duke of Norfolk lead to a massacre of the Lancastrians. King Henry, Queen Margaret and Prince Edward escaped but the Earl of Northumberland died. Captured and beheaded were the earls of Devon and Wiltshire. On 29 March 1461 at the Battle of Towton, Yorkshire, England. He died on 28 April 1461 at the Battle of Towton, England, at age 39 years, 9 months and 3 days. He fell leading the van of the Lancastrians.5,2

She was finally poisoned by her captors.1

"On which date (08 Nov 1464) his widow was pardoned for marrying without license."5,3 His estate was probated on 13 November 1465; inq. p.m.3
