Stokes of Burlington County married Deliverance Horner, daughter of Isaac Horner of Northampton and Lydia Wright, on 3 October 1704 at the Burlington Meeting, Burlington County, New Jersey; His 1st.3,5,4,2 Thomas L. Stokes of Burlington County was noted as an advisor to Lydia Horner, his mother-in-law, as she was named as executrix to her husbands will on 8 December 1708.6 He was recognized in the will of Isaac Horner of Northampton on 8 December 1708 at Northampton, Burlington County, New Jersey; Horner, Isaac, of Northampton, Burlington Co; will of. Stokes of Burlington County purchased of John Kay of Springwell, three hundred acres of land (this land bounded on the north by the south side of the north branch of Cooper's creek; it extends along both sides of a tributary of the same, and includes what is now some of the best soil in the neighborhood) in 1709 at Waterford Township, Camden County, Delaware.7,8 He married Rachel Wright, daughter of Job Wright and Rachel Townsend, on 1 September 1715 at 7th month, Centerton, Burlington County, New Jersey; His 2nd.9,5,4,2 Thomas L. Stokes of Burlington County was bequeathed a pair of oxen and all the other horned cattle in his father's will on 13 October 1719.10 He witnessed the will of Thomas Stokes of Lower Shadwell on 13 October 1719; "I, Thomas Stokes, of Waterford, in ye county of Gloster and Province of New Jersey, being weak of body but of sound mind, Praised be God, and being willing to settle in order all my concerns in this world, Do make and constitute this my Last Will and Testament ... I give and bequeath unto Lydia Stokes, the eldest daughter of my son, Thomas Stokes, my bed and beding and Furniture thereunto belonging, and if she happens to die before she be married, then this said legacie to go to Deliverance Stokes, daughter of my said son, Thomas Stokes.5,10 " Thomas L. Stokes of Burlington County witnessed the death of Thomas Stokes of Lower Shadwell on 11 September 1720 at 7th mo., Waterford Township, Gloucester County, New Jersey.5,4 Thomas L. Stokes of Burlington County died on 6 November 1736 at age 54 years.11,12

Sarah Stokes accompanied the immigration of Thomas Stokes of Lower Shadwell in August 1677 to New Castle, Delaware; "Thomas and his family sailed for America in the ship "Kent" in order to avoid persecution, and also with the object of seeking new fields of labor, and arrived at New Castle, 6th month, 1677, and proceeded to Burlington, West New Jersey, and settled on a tract of land containing one hundred and sixty-two and a half acres. The deed for the same was from his brother, John Stokes, of Wentworth street, London, England."2,3 Sarah Stokes married Benjamin Moore on 6 November 1693 at Evesham Township, Burlington County, New Jersey.4,2,3 Sarah Stokes witnessed the will of Thomas Stokes of Lower Shadwell on 13 October 1719; "I, Thomas Stokes, of Waterford, in ye county of Gloster and Province of New Jersey, being weak of body but of sound mind, Praised be God, and being willing to settle in order all my concerns in this world, Do make and constitute this my Last Will and Testament ... James Sherwyn

     James Sherwyn was Overseer of the Poor in 1718 at Chester Township, Burlington County, New Jersey. He married Rebecca Hollinshead, daughter of William Hollinshead Sr. and Elizabeth Adams, circa 1720. James Sherwyn was Surveyor of Roads in 1723. He was Overseer of Highways in 1729. He died on 26 July 1738 at near Anchocus. Shot in a supposed accident by John Ward who said he was hunting deer. A later account said that John Ward had shot Mr. Sherwyn twice before, though several persons swore that this had never happened.1
"WHEREAS in the American Weekly Mercury, No. 1022.--In giving the melancholy Account of one James Sherwin, late of our said Township, It is said he was shot at twice before, by the same Person, and badly Wounded, but through Mercy escaped with Life. These are to certify, that we whose Names are here under written (some of us being on the Coroner's Inquest) Neighbours, are well satisfied the Person never shot at nor wounded the said fames Sherwin as above, before the time he received his mortal Wound.
