FatherUhtred fitz Maldred2 b. between 1075 and 1080, d. before 1128/29
Dolfin fitz Uhtred was a nobleman "of high Northumbrian birth", holding manors in both Northumbria and Scotland, most likely descended from the Anglo-Saxon earls of Northumbria through the wife of the Scottish prince Maldred mac Crinan.2 He was born between 1100 and 1110 at Raby Castle, Staindrop, County Durham, England. He was the son of Uhtred fitz Maldred.2 Dolfin fitz Uhtred appears to have had interests in Staindrop before 1128 at County Durham, England.2 He was a considerable landowner in the North, for he reserved his homage to Kings of both England and Scotland when he was granted Staindrop and Staindropshire, including the township of Raby, by the Prior of Durham in 1131.2 He was was granted land in 1131 at Staindrop, County Durham, England. Lord of Raby at Staindrop, County Durham, England, between 1131 and 1136.2 He married Alice of Durham, daughter of Bishop of Durham Walcher of Durham, before 1135. Dolfin fitz Uhtred was described as a "turbulent baron" in the "Life of St. Cedric," who is said to have foretold his death before 1136.2 He died circa 1136. His descendants, the early Lords Nevill, caused later Priors much trouble when presenting the abbey with their annual rent, for Raby and the eight adjoining townships, of a sum of money and a stag on St. Cuthbert's Day, by going into the abbey, winding their horns, and demanding to be feasted together with any companions they might bring, also that their own servants should temporarily set aside those of the Prior.2
