He took and maintained a tenuous hold on Córdoba between 1071 and 1075.1 He held Córdoba while Ibn 'Ammar, his vizier and fellow poet, conquered Murcia in 1078.5,1 He retook Córdoba between 1078 and 1091.1 He was a witness where Alfonso VI Fernández "el Bravo", rey de León recaptured Toledo, the first major Islamic town to fall, and Madrid from the Muslims in 1085.1,6 King of Sevilla Muhammad III ibn 'Abbad al-Mu'tamid abu'l-Qasim al-Isbili was forced to pay tribute to Alfonso VI of Castile, and, when he dared to refuse a payment, Alfonso invaded his kingdom and sacked various towns, after 1085. He bravely defended Seville against his former ally, Ibn Tashufin, until the city was betrayed by Almoravid sympathizers in 1091.1 He died in 1095 at Aghmat, Morocco, at age 68 years. Died in exile. He was the third and last member of the 'Abbadid dynasty of Seville, and the epitome of the cultivated Muslim Spaniard of the Middle Ages--liberal, tolerant, and a patron of the arts.2,1
