On his death however, he split the territory he had acquired between his sons Garcia III (IV) (Navarre), Fernando I (Castile), and Ramiro I (Aragon). He wrested the city of León itself from Vermudo III, and entered the city of León in triumph in 1034.9 He was a witness where rey de León Bermudo III Alfonsez lost the city of León to Sancho el Mayor of Navarre, and retreated to Galicia in 1034.12 Sancho III "el Mayor", rey de Pamplona y conde de Aragón divided his kingdom, in accordance to Germanic (Visigoth) law, amongst all his sons so that García received Navarre and the Basque provinces, Fernando took Castile, Ramiro took Aragon, and Gonzalo obtained Sobrarbe and Ribagorza before 18 October 1035.13 He died on 18 October 1035 at Bureba, Spain, at age 48 years. He was related to Kunigunde of Denmark; the young daughter of King Canute of England, Denmark, and Sweden.5 Knut "den Stor" Sveinsson, King of England and Denmark was born circa 995.3 He was the son of Sveinn Tveskaeg Haraldsson, King of Denmark and England and Królewna Polska Gunhilda Piast.1,2,3 Knut "den Stor" Sveinsson, King of England and Denmark married Ælgifu of Northampton, daughter of Ealdorman of Northumbria Ælfhelm of Mercia, circa 1012; His 1st.6,3,7 Knut "den Stor" Sveinsson, King of England and Denmark was proclaimed King of England by the Danish fleet in succession of his father, Sveyn in February 1014.4 He was returned to England from Denmark with fresh forces and took control of virtually the whole country, except for the city of London in 1015. At the death of Æthelred II, in 1016, the Londoners chose Edmund II as their king, but the Witan had chosen Canute. A series of engagements with Edmund followed, with Canute defeating Edmund at Ashington, Essex. A treaty was made between them calling for a partition of England, which would continue in force until one of their deaths, at which time all lands would revert to the survivor. Canute had only a month to wait to become king, since Edmund II died in November of 1016. The Earl was visiting Canute in the hope of making peace by offering the king a number of hostages. Uchtred never got to see the king as he was set upon and murdered by one of his own noblemen called Thurbrand who has some kind of vendetta against Uchtred. In truth Uchtred, a known supporter of the King of Wessex was unlikely to be trusted by Canute and the king may well have instigated the murder.10,11 Knut "den Stor" Sveinsson, King of England and Denmark was crowned, the first Dane to be so, as King of England on 6 January 1017 at Old St. Paul's Cathedral, London, Middlesex, England.8 He married Emma Regina, daughter of Richard I "Sans Peur", Leader of the Normans of Rouen and Gunnor de Crepon, on 2 July 1017; His 2nd. There are lots of uncertainties about these lines, since many records have not survived. Source materials for most things in the medieval Balkans are ususally not from contemporary writers, and the few contemporary sources existing are usually from Byzantine writers, not writers from the various states themselves.
