     Vukan, veliki zupan Rashka was the uncle of Urosh I, veliki zupan Rashka; Vukan’s nephew, and his successor. Vukan, veliki zupan Rashka was described by Anna Comnena as a man "accomplished in word and deed".² He was a Croat from Ribnica near modern Titograd, Duklja, Balkan Peninsula.² He was older brother of Marko.² He was a relative (family member) of King Bodin of Zeta (Duklja).^3,4,5 He was born circa 1054?. He was the son of Petrislav, Grand Zupan of Rassa.² Grand Zupan of Raska at (Serbia), Balkan Peninsula, between 1083 and 1122.⁵ Vukan, veliki zupan Rashka raided and ravaged Byzantine territory as far as Skoplje several times.² He was forced by the Emperor Alexius to acknowledge Byzantine suzerainty, and as part of the agreement had to hand over twenty hostages to the emperor, among them his nephews Uros and Stjepan Vuk in 1094.² He managed - through a combination of military actions, timely (if often broken) promises and other diplomacy - to spin off from the declining Zeta and successfully resist the Byzantines, occassionally expanding to the south and east.⁴ He was the predecessor of Urosh I, veliki zupan Rashka; Zhupan of Serbia.^6,7,8,9

     Fernando Pérez de Traba was a distinguished Galician noble who played a vital role in twelfth-century Peninsular politics.¹ He was born circa 1100. He was the son of conde de Traba Pedro Fróilaz de Traba.¹ Fernando Pérez de Traba assumed a commanding position in the Portuguese court following the death of Count Henry, by reason of his intimate relationship with Henry's wife, Teresa before 1128.¹ He was a witness where Afonso I "O Conquistador", rei de Portugal acquired control of Portugal from his mother, who had been regent for him, in 1128 at the Battle of São Mamede, near Guimarães, Braga, Portugal.² Fernando Pérez de Traba fled to the court of Alfonso VII of Castile following his banishment from Portugal in 1128.¹ He married Sancha González before 1154.
