He was with the Emperor Alfonso at the victory over the Almohades at Almería in 1147.3 "In the beginning of August the famous French ambassadors came by sea. Their arrival embittered many. Having duly greeted the Emperor, they, the glory of their kingdom, spoke in the following manner: 'Oh what a great honor it is for the noble French youth to greet you in a clear voice with all their sails unfurled. ... William, the leader of Montpellier, powerful in his own right, follows these in a large and mighty vessel. They are perfectly armed and are prepared for a fierce war. They have remembered the alliance, for they now have arrived at the port. They also bring large stones for the destruction of the walls. These men lead a thousand ships, and they claim that already they may be too late. They are loaded with embellished arms and sweet foods. Once the battle begins, they will fight for the booty of gold. Surely they will kill our enemies without fail. Under their prudent leader, these spirited troops do not need the aid of anyone, if only they are aided by your forces.4'" He was became a Cisterian monk before 1162 at Granselve. He died in 1162.

Ramón Berenguer IV "el Santo", conde de Barcelona, príncipe de Aragón y marqués de Provenza was the elder son of Ramon Berenguer III.4 He was twice mentioned by the troubadour Marcabru who sent greetings to Barcelona as also to Castile and Portugal.5 Ramón Berenguer IV "el Santo", conde de Barcelona, príncipe de Aragón y marqués de Provenza also went by the name of Ramon Berenguer "the Holy" of Barcelona.4 He was born circa 1113 at Barcelona, Spain.4 He was the son of Ramón Berenguer III "el Grande", conde de Barcelona y de Provenza and Dolça de Gévaudun.1,3 Ramón Berenguer IV "el Santo", conde de Barcelona, príncipe de Aragón y marqués de Provenza succeeded his father as the last Count of Barcelona in 1131. He was he continued his father's crusading wars against the Almoravid Muslims. The kingdom of Aragon soon sought Ramon Berenguer IV's aid against Castile. In the course of their negotiations, he was promised the hand of the Aragonese king Ramiro II's daughter and heir, Petronila, and a few months later (November 13), Ramiro II abdicated in favour of his daughter and son-in-law. Ramon Berenguer IV thus became the last count of Barcelona to take this as his principal title, for, from 1137, he was also ruler of Aragon (though he himself never assumed the title of king). From the reign of his son, who in 1162 succeeded him with the title of Alfonso II, the counts of Barcelona styled themselves, in the first place, kings of Aragon. In 1146.5 "In the beginning of August the famous French ambassadors came by sea. Their arrival embittered many. Having duly greeted the Emperor, they, the glory of their kingdom, spoke in the following manner: 'Oh what a great honor it is for the noble French youth to greet you in a clear voice with all their sails unfurled. Your brother-in-law, Count Ramón Berenguer of Barcelona, an armed knight, awaits, as he promised, at the shores of the sea. He marches fiercely against the enemy.12'" He was with the Emperor Alfonso at the victory over the Almohades at Almería in 1147.13 He defeated the Moors and captured Tortosa in 1148.1,14 He defeated the Moors and captured Lérida, Mequinenza, and Fraga in 1149.1,14 He was constructed the monastery in 1151 at Poblet, Terragonna Province, Catalan, Spain. He fought the Moors at Prades and Siurana in 1153.1 He definitively established the boundaries of the principality of Catalonia by his wars and conquests from the Moors.1 He married Mafalda Afonsa de Borgonha, daughter of Afonso I "O Conquistador", rei de Portugal and Mahaud de Savoie, rainha de Portugal, in 1160.15 Ramón Berenguer IV "el Santo", conde de Barcelona, príncipe de Aragón y marqués de Provenza died on 6 August 1162 at Borgo Sam Dalmazzo, Piedmont, Italy.1,16 He was the predecessor of Dulcia II, rainha de Portugal; Countess of Provence.
