"The youngest son, Jacob, was killed by a negro slave in 1753. The murderer was tried and sentenced by the court to be burned alive and the order of the court was executed by the sheriff of Somerset county in an official manner."2

He was the son of Matthias Hendrickse Smock and Elizabeth Stevens Coninck.2 Hendrick Smock accompanied Matthias Hendrickse Smock and Elizabeth Stevens Coninck when Matthias and Elizabeth relocated in 1718 and came to reside in Piscataway, Middlesex County, New Jersey. Hendrick Smock witnessed the will of Matthias Hendrickse Smock on 2 October 1721; His will mentions sons Hendrick, John, Lucas, Matthias, and Jacobus, and daughters Elizabeth, Gertrude, and Mary. His wife, Elizabeth, is named as the sole executrix. Witnesses to the will were Samuel Conners, Leedert "Smack" and John Cholwell.3 Hendrick Smock married Antje Van Duyn circa 1722.

In 1726, Hendrick Smock appeared on the census at Piscataway, Middlesex County, New Jersey, Details provided: listed as a Freeholder.

He witnessed (or was recognized by) the probate of the estate of Gertrude Smock on 8 December 1738; Her brother, Hendrick, was administrator of the will. Hendrick Smock witnessed the will of Charles Fontaine on 1 March 1742/43 at Somerset County, New Jersey; Mentions that Jan Smock is the wife of his sister Lea.      The surname Thayer was originally Tayer, Tawier and Tawyer, and is a trade name, for one who dresses skins. The letter "h" was not added until after the family came to New England, and in the Mendon line that letter was silent, as in Thomas and Thompson, until early in the last century. In this country the grandchildren of the first Thomas Tayer, as Isaac was, spelled the name Thayer.6,7 The "Eighth child of Ferdinando and Huldah Thayer, married Mercy (Rockwood, not) Ward, 1 da., 2 mo., 1691 or '92. Settled in Mendon, Mass. Farmer. Second wife, Mary (???), married 1703."2 Isaac Thayer of Mendon was born in 1672 at Mendon, Worcester County, Massachusetts. "The eighth of twelve children."8,9,10 He was the son of Ferdinando Tayer of Mendon and Huldah Hayward of Braintree.2,3,4,5 Isaac Thayer of Mendon (an unknown value) circa 1692 at Mendon, Worcester County, Massachusetts.2 He was a farmer circa 1692 at Mendon, Worcester County, Massachusetts.2 He married Mercy Rockwood, daughter of John Rockwood of Mendon and Johanna Ford, on 1 April 1692 at 1691/2, Mendon, Massachusetts; His 1st.11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,10,19 Isaac Thayer of Mendon married Mary (?) in 1703; His 2nd.16,10 Isaac Thayer of Mendon married Hannah Winter circa 1712; His 3rd (widower).8,20 Isaac Thayer of Mendon was bequeathed "one shilling because of legacy I gave to his children" by his father-in-law, John Rockwood, on 8 June 1724.21 He witnessed the will of John Rockwood of Mendon on 8 June 1724; “To wife Rebekah 1/3. Balance to Grandchildren, viz: to children of son Joseph deceased, and Priscilla, daughter of John Corbit, and Hannah Brown daughter of John Darling and Mercy Thompson wife of David together with Mary Holbrook wife of Joseph and her sister Ann Cook my granddaughters. Son in law John Darling 1 shilling and no more because of legacy I gave to his daughter Hannah Brown. Son in law Nicholas Cook 1 shilling. Son in law Isaac Thayer one shilling because of legacy I gave to his children. Son in law Jonathan Heyward 1 shilling because I gave £10 to his children he had by his first wife. Grandson John Corbit sole executor.”.22 Isaac Thayer of Mendon was a witness where Ebenezer Thayer of Mendon recognized in his father's will, due money from his brother Moses, and noted as resident of Mendon on 3 October 1754 at Mendon, Massachusetts.23 Isaac Thayer of Mendon left a will on 3 October 1754 at Worcester County, Massachusetts; "To my beloved son, Ebenezer Thayer of Mendon and his heirs and assignees forever I give after my demise 13 pounds, 6 shillings and 8 pence lawful money to be paid by my aforesaid son, Moses Thayer, in the space of two years after my decease besides what I have already given him." And he named "the four children of my daughter Marcy Thomson, deceased, viz: David Thomson, Mary Scott, wife of Samuel; Abigail Right, wife of Samuel; Loies Darling, wife of Enock; children of my granddau. Marcy Thomson, wife of Ezra, dec’d; children of my grand-dau. Rachel Thomson, wife of Ichabod, dec’d; children of my grand-dau. Unice Brown, wife of Joseph, dec’d.”.23,24 He was a witness where Moses Thayer recognized in the will of his father and entrusted with giving his brother, Ebenezer, a sum of money, on 3 October 1754.23 Isaac Thayer of Mendon was a witness where Mercy Thayer deceased before her father, who named her four children in his will, viz: David Thomson, Mary Scott, wife of Samuel; Abigail Right, wife of Samuel; Loies Darling, wife of Enock; on 3 October 1754.24 Isaac Thayer of Mendon died in December 1754 at Cape Ann, Essex County, Massachusetts, America, at age 82 years. Died at sea.25 His estate was probated on 5 July 1755 at Worcester County, Massachusetts.24

     Johannes Hendrickse Smock was born circa 1673 at New Utrecht, Kings County Long Island, New York. Virkus Compendium says 1665, while yet another source says 14 Sep 1675. He was the son of Hendrick Matthyse Smock and Guertje Harmens Coerton.3 Johannes Hendrickse Smock married Catherine Barents in 1692 at New Utrecht, Kings County Long Island, New York.

In 1698, Johannes Hendrickse Smock appeared on the census at New Utrecht, Kings County, New York, Details provided: Listed as freeholder, and married, but without children.

He and Catherine Barents relocated to Staten Island, Richmond County, New York, before 2 February 1705; Listed in local records as "Hannes, Assessor, West."

In 1706, Johannes Hendrickse Smock appeared on the census at Staten Island, New York, Details provided: In the census, his age is noted as "33", men over 16 are "John Smak", under boys are "Hendrak Smak," Barnt Smak," and "John Smak," and under girls "Anne Smok" and "Catherine Smok", and under women "Catherine Smok."

He and Catherine Barents relocated to Middletown, Monmouth County, New Jersey, in 1712. Johannes Hendrickse Smock was was deeded for 230 acres in Middletown township and for 4 acres of salt meadow in Shoal Harbor, valued at 1,200 pounds on 9 December 1712 at Middletown, Monmouth County, New Jersey. He witnessed (or was recognized by) the probate of the estate of Leonard Hendrickse Smock on 12 April 1739; Johannes, his brother, was the executor. Johannes Hendrickse Smock left a will on 24 September 1754; Names wife Catherine, children Barnes; Ann, wife of John Teunison; "Morritey," wife of Cornelius "van de Vear;" grandchildren "Johannis," "Garrat," Barnes, Nelly, and Catherine, children of his deceased son Hendrick. The executor of the will was his son Barnes, son-in-law John Teunisson, and Cornelius van de Vear, and grandson of Johannis Smock. He died on 14 December 1754 at Middletown, Monmouth County, New Jersey. 14 Dec 1756 is the date given in the Early Settlers of King County book.1,2 His estate was probated on 24 January 1755.

William Hollinshead Sr. and Elizabeth Adams obtained a marriage license on 6 March 1692/93; William, on 1, 6, 1692/3, granted certificate (gc) to marry (m) by the Burlington Monthly Meeting.7 William Hollinshead Sr. married Elizabeth Adams, daughter of Captain John Adams and Elizabeth (?), on 23 March 1692/93 at the house of John Adams, Chester Township, Burlington County, New Jersey.2,8 William Hollinshead Sr. was a witness where John Hollinshead Sr. deeded some of his land to his son, William, "450 acres called the Beargarden also a strip on the south side of it" on 11 September 1693 at Chester Township, New Jersey.9 William Hollinshead Sr. and John Hollinshead Jr. were were among a group of 12 men appointed to lay out the roads in 1699 at Chester Township, New Jersey.9 William Hollinshead Sr. witnessed the will of John Hollinshead Sr. on 23 September 1699 at Burlington County, Jew Jersey; Will of John Hollinshead. Wife Grace. Sons--John, who has son John, William, who has Grace, Elizabeth, George and Sarah; legacy to servant girl Susannah Nott and to Peter Frettwell. Land on Elton's Run betw. John Wills, John Adams and George Greaves. Personal property. Executors--the two sons William and John. Witnesses--Rob't Roberts, Benj. Wheate and Henry Grubb.10 William Hollinshead Sr. and John Hollinshead Jr. were among a group of thirteen trustees of the Society of Friends on 9 April 1700. To this group James Adams and Esther, his wife, deeded one acre of land situate in the Township of Chester for meeting purposes.9

In 1704, William Hollinshead Sr. appeared on the census at Burlington County, New Jersey, Details provided: He appears in a Quaker record.11

He was appointed Overseer of Highways in 1713 at Chester Township, New Jersey.9

In 1739, William Hollinshead Sr. appeared on the census at Burlington County, New Jersey, Details provided: He appears in an Election Returns.12

He witnessed the will of William Hollinshead Jr. on 7 September 1741; In his will he specified that "my father and mother shall have maintenance out of the plantation where I now dwell during their natural life." William Hollinshead Sr. witnessed the will of George Hollinshead on 19 February 1755; In his will he states that "my son James must keep on maintaining my father William."9 William Hollinshead Sr. died after 19 February 1755 at Burlington County, New Jersey. He was still alive when mentioned in the will of son George, dated 12, 19, 1755.13

     Nathan Austin was born on 25 January 1725 at Methuen, Essex County, Massachusetts.1 He was the son of Thomas Austin Jr. and Sarah Lovejoy.1 Nathan Austin married Hannah Farnum, daughter of Stephen Farnum and Hannah Richardson, on 11 February 1748 at Methuen, Essex County, Massachusetts; Performed by Rev. Christopher Sargent.1,2,3 Nathan Austin volunteered for the Lake George relief effort on 15 September 1755.4,3 He was discharged at Lake George on 15 December 1755.4,3 He died in January 1756 at near Leicester, Massachusetts, at age 30 years and 11 months. From Hannah's later testimony, we learn that along the way Nathan was taken sick with a fever near the town of Leicester. He died there in Jan. 1756, in the home of Dr. Pliny Lawton (who himself would die of smallpox a few years later) leaving Hannah pregnant and with three small children.3

Jonathan Butterfield's Co., leaving his own wife with six children and his recently widowed daughter with her four kids, on 22 April 1756.3 He died on 1 September 1756 at Lake George.3

     Antje Smock was baptized on 22 April 1745 at Sourland Dutch Church, Somerville, Somerset County, New Jersey. She was the daughter of Hendrick Smock and Antje Van Duyn. Antje Smock witnessed the will of Hendrick Smock on 29 November 1746; Identifies Hendrick as a farmer, names wife Antje, children Elizabeth, Hendrick, Dennis, and Ann, all under age but Elizabeth, mentions a home farm of 131 acres in Bound Brook, and names wife Antje as sole executrix. Antje Smock died before 1757. Young.

     Thomas Aten was born in 1670 at Flatbush, Kings County, New York.2 He was the son of Adriaen Hendrickse Aten and Elizabeth Thomas.1,2 Thomas Aten took oath of allegiance in 1687 at Flatbush, New York.2 He was took the Oath of Allegience to the King of England in September 1687 at Kings County, New York.3 He lived in 1694; "native of Fflackbush."2 He married Elsje Schilman, daughter of Captain Thomas Skillman and Sara Pettit, in 1694 at Brooklyn, Kings County, New York.2,4 Thomas Aten was (an unknown value) before 1701 at New Brunswick, Middlesex County, New Jersey.5 He and Elsje Schilman removed to the "Valley of the Raritan" between 1710 and 1715 at Somerset County, New York.2 Thomas Aten "In the list of Families of the First Ref. Ch. (N. Brunswick) from 1732 to 1735," says Rev. P. T. Pockman, pastor 1898, between 1732 and 1735.2 He died in 1757 at age 87 years.
