Mr. Roten
Elmer Edgar Roten, 83, of 236 Womack St., died Friday, Nov. 21, at his residence.
An Ashe Countyunty native, he was the son of the late Thomas and Countyra Calloway Roten and the husband of Edna Holbrook Roten, who died in 1954. He retired as a self-employed carpenter and belonged to the Louisa Chapel United Methodist Church.
Surviving are seven daughters, Maxine McClure of Otto, Martha Schultheis of Toccoa, Ga., Linda Griffin of Athens, Ga., Mary Sue Maxwell of Hendersonville, Kathryn Cruse, Patsy Henderson and Jane Ledford, all of Franklin; two sons, Thomas and William A. Roten, both of Franklin; two sisters, Stella Francis and Ola Henry, both of Waynesville; 23 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Bryant Funeral Home. Burial was in the Macon County, North Carolina - Woodlawn Cemtery. Pallbearers were grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the building fund of the Louisa Chapel United Methodist Church, Franklin.

Spruce Pine, Aug. 15 -- Funeral services for Mrs. Ethel Mae Roten Buchanan, 52, of Spear who died last night in a Banner Elk hospital after a long illness, will be held tommorrow at 2 p.m. in Yellow Mountain Baptist Church.
The Rev. Roby Painters and the Rev. T. W. Clapp will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.
A native of Ashe County, she came to Spear in 1920 and was married in 1923 to Paul Buchanan who survives.
Surviving, in addition to the husband are two sons, Alvin A. of Plumtree and Paul L. of Aidken, S. C.; one daughter, Miss Martha ???
