Obituary from The Watauga Democrat, Watagua County, North Carolina, dated Feburary 20, 2002:
Mr. Robert C. Roten, 51, of 1141 Rainbow Road, Mountain City, Tenn., died Monday afternoon, Feb. 18, 2002, in Johnson County Medical Center, as a result of an automobile accident.
He was born Dec. 13, 1950, in West Jefferson, Ashe County, to Albert and Maggie Osborne Roten.
Mr. Roten was a machine operator at Columbus McKinnon in Damascus, Virginia and a member of the Church of Christ in Mountain City.
Survivors include his wife, Rita Trivette Roten; two daughters, Tina Potter and April Roten, all of Mountain City; his father and mother, Albert and Maggie Osborne Roten of Creston; five brothers, Gary Roten, Jerry Roten and L.C. Roten, all of Creston; Jamie Roten and Larry Roten, both of Laurel Springs; and one sister, Mrs. Louise Viers, of Laurel Springs. He is also survived by four grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Henson Funeral Home Chapel in Mountain City, with the Rev. Frank Woods and the Rev. Herman Trivette officiating. Burial will follow in the Roten Family Cemetery in Mountain City.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6-9 p.m. at Henson Funeral Home in Mountain City, Tenn. At other times, friends may call at the Roten residence.
