Obituary from a Waynesville newspaper, Haywood County, North Carolina, dated about November 1969:
Mrs. Cora Roten
Waynesville - Mrs. Cora Calloway Roten, 90, of Rt. 5, died Saturday afternoon in a Haywood County nursing home after a brief illness.
She was a native of Ashe County.
Surviving are her husband, the Rev. Thomas S. Roten; three sons, Elmer E. of Franklin, Lawrence of Waynesville and Lloyd F. Roten of Brighton, Mich.; two daughters, Mrs. Leon Henry and Mrs Jack Moody, both of Waynesville; two sisters, Mrs. Bob Woodruff and Mrs George Miller, both of West Jefferson; a brother William Calloway of West Jefferson; 15 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Dellwood United Methodist Church, of which she was a member.
The Rev. Harley C. Dickson and the Rev. Dan Ward will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gards. Pallbearers will be grandsons.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Garrett Funeral Home, where the body will remain until the hour of services.

Mrs. Calloway, 71, Buried Tuesday
The funeral service for Mrs. Effie Calloway, 74, Jefferson, who died at the Ashe Memorial hospital Sunday night, was held at the Bristol Baptist church Tuesday afternoon with Rev. W.E. Denney and Carroll Murphy officiating. Burial followed in the Wallace cemetery
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Tom Burkett, two sisters, Mrs. Troy Shatley, Mrs. J.H. Harris, Mountain Park; a brother, W.A. Calloway, Johnson City, Tenn., and one grandchild. Parents: James M. CALLOWAY and Catherine BOWERS.
