Elizabeth Roten Rites Held May 31
Funeral service for Elizabeth Roten, 87, of West Jefferson, who passed away at her home Monday, May 28, was conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 31, at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel with Rev. Bruce Roten officiating with burial in Ashelawn Memorrial Gardens.
Mrs.Roten was born in Ashe County, January 12, 1892, the daughter of George and Elvira Roark Roten.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Carrie Campbell, Manchester, Pa., Mrs. Marie Ashley, Woodbine, Md., Mrs. Ruth Calhoun, West Jefferson, Miss Jewel Roten of the home, two sons, Raleigh Roten, Lexington, Warner Roten, North Wilkesboro, two brothers, Elder Dewey Roten, West Jefferson, Paul Roten, Creston, two sisters, Mrs. Lillie Miller, Creston, two sisters, Mrs. Lillie Miller, Creston, Mrs. Hettie Sapp, Lansing; 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-great grandchildren also survive.

Rawleigh Roten Former Sheriff Buried Monday
Died Suddenly At The Ashe Memorial Hospital, Saturday
Funeral service was held Monday, June 21, at North Fork Primitive Baptist Church for Walter Rawleigh Roten, 68, of Jefferson, who passed away Saturday at the Ashe Memorial Hospital.
Elder Walter Evans, Elder C.O. Yates and Elder Gene Thompson conducted the ceremony. Burial followed in the Graybeal Cemetery.
He was a born in Ashe county, September 21, 1901 to George and Elvira Roark Roten.
He was a former sheriff of Ashe county and ws active in the Democratic party.
Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Roten of West Jefferson, Mrs. Lillie Miller of Creston and Mrs. Hattie Sapp of Lansing; Two brothers, Elder Dewey Roten of Fleetwood and Paul Roten of North Wilkesboro.

W. Edward Roten, Oxford (Pennsylvania), R2 died unexpectedly Tuesday at his home in Hopewell after an illness of one day. The husband of Lula Inscor Roten, he was sixty-eight.
He was a carpenter and a member of the Wrightsdale Baptist Church.
Born in Rich Hill, N.C., he was the son of the late James and Nancy Jones Roten.
He is survived by his wife and eight children: Carrie, wife of William Mitten, Wilmington, Del.; Edward Jr., Elkton, Maryland.; Charles, Nottingham (Pennsylvania); William; Oscar; Edna, wife of Curtis McGlothlin; Ralph , and Roy, all of Oxford.
Also surviving are 28 grandchildren, five great grandchildren and these brothers and sisters: Lilie, wife of Willy Roland, and Lillard, both of Peach Bottom (Pennsylvania); Lee, of Tralee, WVirginia; Pearl, wife of David Jones, Oxford; Mrs. Bessie Surber, Conowingo, Maryland; Mrs. Ivy Jones, Rich Hill, N.C.; and Mrs. Effie Curlers, of North Carolina.
