Final rites held Wed. for Calloway
Funeral service for George Oscar Calloway, Jefferson, who passed away Monday, April 27, in Ashe Memorial Hospital, was conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, at the Bristol Baptist Church. Officiating were Rev. Joe Blevins and Rev. Earl Sexton with burial in the Wallace Cemetery.
Mr. Calloway was born in Ashe County, January 1, 1905, to Charlie Calloway and Annie Bare Calloway.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Wancie Darnell Calloway; three step-daughters, Laura Sheets, Sparta, Mary Quintana, Lenoir, and Faye Osborne, Jefferson; three step-sons, Robert Darnell, Jefferson, Howard Church, Richmond, Va., and Earl Pendergrass, Jefferson; three sisters, Maxie Calloway and Margaret Holt, both of Jefferson, Hattie Calloway, California; four brothers, Carl, Ira, Bower and John Calloway, all of Jefferson; 23 step-grandchildren and several great-grandchildren also survive.
