Mattie W. Keener
Mattie W. Keener, 91 of Walnut Creek Road, Franklin, North Carolina, died Sunday, March 25, 2001, in a Sylva Hospital.
A native of Macon County, she was the dauthe of the late William C. Wilkes and Annie Campbell Wilkes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell P. Keener, who died in May 1987. She was a graduate of Western Carlina University with a BA degree, teaching in Macon County Schools for 33 years; was a member of the Macon County Retired Teachers Association; and was of the Methodist faith.
She is survived by two daughters, Janice K. Hite of Silver Springs, Maryland and Vianne K. Payne of Franklin; one grandchild and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, in the Cahpel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. R.E. Stevenson officiated. Burial was in the Macon County, North Carolina - Woodlawn Cemtery.
Pallbearers were Paul "Nig" Tallent, Chester Wilkes, Jr., Ben Wilkes, Sammy Hedden, Grant Keener, and Billy Hedden.
