Last Rites Held For Mr. Calloway

The funeral for Charles Calloway, 78, Jefferson, was held Monday afternoon at the Bristol Baptist church with burial in the Wallace cemetery.
Revs. Josh Cockerham and W.E. Denny officiated at the service for Mr. Calloway, who died Saturday at the Ashe Memorial hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Annie Calloway; five sons, Ira, George, John, Carl and Bower Calloway and three daughters, Mrs. Maxie Maye, Mrs. Margaret Holt and Miss Hattie Calloway. Parents: James M. CALLOWAY and Catherine BOWERS.

Charlie Calloway Dies After Self Inflicted Wound

Had Been In Ill Health For Sometime; One Of County's Well Known Farmers

The funeral service for Charlie James Calloway, 63, who died Thursday night after a self inflicted wound made by a gun at his home, was held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 at the First Baptist church in West Jefferson. Interment was in the Burkett cemetery.
The body lay in state at the church from 1:00 until 2:00. The American Legion conducted the graveside sevice with honor rites. Elder Dewey Roten, Rev. M.D. Hart and Rev. Rexford Campbell officiated.
Mr. Calloway, who was a veteran of World War I, and well known farmer and Stone Mason in Ashe county, is survived by his wife, Mrs. Gertrude Calloway, five sisters, Mrs. Robert Woodruff, Idlewild; Mrs. Bessie Colvard, West Jefferson; Mrs. Jennie Bledsoe, Deep Gap; Mrs. Cora Roten, Delwood; Mrs. George Miller, West Jefferson, two brothers, Winfred Calloway of West Jefferson; Will Calloway, West Jefferson.
The deceased had been in ill health for some time and had recently undergone treatment in a veterans hospital.
