Briefcase ] Hi Stanley and List. I have these entries for Joseph GUILBEAU [Joseph & Charlotte De St. Etienne LATOUR]. “Marriage Investigation [SM Ch: Marriage Investigation Folio C, #6] "Joseph of Miquelon, christened in Island of St. Pierre et Miquelon (Joseph & Anne Charlotte "De La Torre de St. Etienne"; marriage investigation regarding freedom to marry 4 Jan 1791 Pelagie Richard of the Mississippi River, christened in the Parish of Assumption of LaFourche, 22 years old (dec. Joseph & Anne BLanchard). Witnesses: Jean Charles Guilbeau; David Babineau; Charles Perchant, now married to Anne Blanchard (widow of Joseph Richard). Fr. Bernard de Deva.” [Source: SWLR, v. 1-A, 1750-1800] and “(SM Ch.: v.6, #46), GUILBEAUX, Joseph - inhabitant of this parish; native of Acadie (major son of dec. Joseph & dec. Charlotte de ST. ETIENNE de la Tour) m. 5 July 1817 (2) Julie VALLOT - native of this parish (major daughter of Etienne - inhabitant at la pointe & Elizabeth SMITH) Wits: Joseph Fortune PENNE, Francois LAPAUJADE, Paul HECAUD, Auguste BORNE. Fr. Gabriel ISABEY.” [Source: SWLR, v.1-A, 1750-1800]. Joseph who married Charlotte was the son of Joseph l'Officier GUILBEAU and Madeleine MICHEL. Per Janet Jehn, ACADIAN EXILES IN THE COLONIES; 1755-1769; p. 260; Suggested as possibly the Joseph GUILBAU with wife and five children who was on the List of French Acadians kept prisoner by the British at Halif[ax, dated 12 Aug 1763. Notes say that Joseph GUILBEAU was a navigator, son of Joseph & Madeleine MICHEL, married in 1763 to Charlotte LATOUR, daughter of Charles & Marguerite RICHARD; five children born between 1765-1773. He was at Miquelon in 1766 [sic] and renumberated on the 1769 census. What is not known to me is why Joseph would have not elected to travel to Louisiana with the others who were at Halifax but elect to go elsewhere instead. Anyway in response to your question about persons arriving from St. Miquelon I submit this. Andy Scott. | |
