Story* | Notes on: Pierre Antoine Bienvenue (RN=408). (CBH.56, 126) Pierre Antoine came to Kaskaskia, Illinois Country at the age of 15 with his father. On 3 June 1726 he married Francoise Rabut. He lived at Kaskaskia and received two land grants in 1727 comprising a total of five arpents front from the hills to the Mississippi River at Prairie du Rocher. He was a Major in the Kaskaskia Militia and remained at Kaskaskia until after 1739, at which time he is recorded as serving as syndica (magistrate) ofthe settlement, representing the village in all lawsuits against it. He later moved to lower Louisiana and settled below NewOrleans in what is now St. Bernard Parish. He became a Captain in the Coast Guard. In matters requiring wise and judicial advice he was often sought. Because of his unimpeachable character and sound wisdom, being trained in the law, he was invited during the Spanish occupancy to serve on the Cabildo, the colony's chief judicial body, and sat at the court's first session in December 1769. He became a wealthy landowner, having the largest plantation in St. Bernard. In the 1763 census he is shown as having 350 arpents of arable land, 1000 arpents of wooded land, 91 slaves, 30 oxen, 60 cows, and 79 sheep. He is also listed in the 1766 census and in the 1770 census, on the east bank of the Mississippi River below New Orleans at Habitation No. 12 with 130 slaves and with another 20 slaves at asecond property (No. 25). The Bienvenu plantation, along with the neighboring plantations of de Lino de Chalmet, De La Ronde,Lacoste and Villere formed the battleground for the Battle of NewOrleans 8 January 1815. The former Bienvenu plantation now form spart of the Kaiser Aluminum plant at Chalmette. Following his first wife's death, Pierre Antoine married Marie Marte, from whom he had five children.

CLARENCE B* | He was clarence b 154.
Story* | Notes on Alexandre Antoine de Latil de timecount Alexandre Antoine came to Louisiana in 1746 and he eventually became a senior officer of infantry in the Louisiana Militia. On 16 April 1757 he married Marie Ren6e de LA CHAISE. On 19 June 1757 he purchased a segment of the rear portion of the Langlois plantation on Bayou St. John, near Washerwomen's Bridge on Bayou Road, on which was located a crockery factory. He established his residence on this Bayou St. John place, several miles from the main Vieux Carr6 settlement. As of 10 November 1762 he is also recorded as owning a house in New Orleans on a 60 feet by 168 feet lot, and six building lots, each 30 by 168, on Bourbon Street, but he apparently sold three of these on 12 October 1765. On 30 April 1770 he was granted the trapezoidal site of the Spanish Naval Arsenal on the old Dugu6 plantation on the east bank of Bayou St. John, but he sold this on 26 August 1771. On 1 November 1774 Governor UNZAGA granted Alexandre Antoine LATIL and Maurice CONWAY a tract of land upriver from New Orleans, measuring half a league in front with the usual depth of 40 arpents, which had belonged to the Houmas Indians. This plantation later became known as the Houmas, near Burnside, where the Houmas House presently stands. However, Alexandre Antoine did not hold on to this property for long and on 4 January 1776 he sold his half interest to his partner CONWAY. The census of New Orleans of June 1778 shows LATILLE, a retired officer, living on the left side of Ste. Ursule Street with his wife, one son under 13 years of age, three daughters under 13 and one over 13. He was Director of Works (for New Orleans fortifications), without military rank, from 1784 until his death. For this position he earned 30 dollars monthly. In addition to his children by Marie Jeanne, Alexandre Antoine acknowledged two other children, Alexandre Jr. and Jean Sebastian, who are believed to be illegitimate, of mothers unknown. He and Marie Jeanne had six children, all born in New Orleans.

Note* | He 8. JEAN MELANSON & MARGUERITE DUGAS. Explanatory Notes S.A. White i. The presence of Jean Melanson, Jean-Baptiste Melanson, and Alexandre Melanson an1ong the godfathers of the children of Joseph Theriot and Marguerite Melanson seems to confirm Father Archange Godbout's identification of Marguerite as a daughter of Jean Melanson and Marguerite Dugas. ii. Paul Melanson and Jean-Pierre LeBlanc were witnesses to the marriage contract of their cousin Madeleine Melanson, daughter of Jacques Melanson and Marguerite Broussard (before Judice at Ascension, June 29, 1768). Paul Melanson and Osite Melanson, Jean-Pierre LeBlanc's wife, were both children of Jean-Baptiste Melanson and Madeleine LeBlanc. This mention of the kinship between Madeleine Melanson on the one side and Paul Melanson and Jean-Pierre LeBlanc on the other confirms Pere Archange Godbout's supposition that Jacques Melanson was the son of Jean Melanson and Marguerite Dugas. iii. Marie Boudrot, the only known child from the marriage of Benjan1in Boudrot to Cecile Melanson, and Marguerite Richard, daughter of Claude Richard and Cecile Melanson, were both in the household of Franyois Hebert at Georgetown, Maryland, in 1763. This Franyois Hebert was married to Cecile's sister Marie-Josephe Melanson. It would thus appear that the two orphan girls had been taken in by their uncle and aunt. This deduction leads to the conclusion that Claude Richard's widow married secondly Benjan1in Boudrot.1

Story* | Notes on: Pierre Melanson (RN=424). (CBE.136) Pierre, a stone mason, arrived in Acadie from England via Boston in 1657 with his parents aboard the vessel SATISFACTION. He lived at St. Charles des Mines, Grand Pre, of which he was one of the principal founders. At the 1671 census he refused to give any information, but at the 1686 census he reported having thirty-one head of cattle, eight sheep, and twelve firearms. Pierre and Marie Marguerite had ten children, all born at Grand Pre. Source: The Acadian Odyssey [424] Pierre Mellanson and his brother [1222] Charles were of Scottish descent. They arrived around 1657 aboard one of Sir Thomas Temple's ships. The two brothers, along with Pierre Terriot, are co-founders of Grand Pré. A Brief History of This Acadian Family The Melansons in Acadia: Many a writer has tried to explain the origins of this family. It was generally believed that the Melanson were of Scottish origin, but this assumption was based on a historic mistake. There is no document that demonstrates that the Melansons who came to Acadia were of Scottish decent, in fact to the contrary there is proof that they were of English decent. The two Melanson brothers, PIERRE, dit Laverdure, a stonemason, born in 1632, the spouse of Marie Marguerite Muis d'Entremont, the daughter of the Lord of Pomcoup, Philippe Mius d 'Entremont, and CHARLES, born in 1643, the husband of Marie Dugas, daughter of Armourer Abraham Dugas and Marguerite Doucet of Port Royal, arrived in Port Royal accompanied their parents aboard the ship the Satisfaction, with Sir Thomas Temple, the new English Governor of Acadia, which arrived in 1657. During almost a century, just until the deportation of the Acadians in 1755, the settlement was the place of residence of Charles Melanson and his wife Marie Dugas, and their descendents and associates. "The Melanson Settlement" is one of the principle Canadian archeological sites illustrating the way of rural life in Acadia in the 17th and 18th centuries. It is a mirror of the various aspects "of the daily life, their homes, material culture and their prosperity. 1755: DEPORTATION: In the Autumn of 1755, 1660 Acadians of the region of Port Royal embarked on the ships towards exile. Charles and Ambroise Melanson took refuge in Quebec, while Jean Melanson and his family were refugies in France with a group of Acadians Cape Sable. Others were deported to Maryland and other States. The Melanson like hundreds of other Acadians were imprisoned in the military fortresses which were neither more or less than concentration camps. At gun point, English soldiers forced them to work for them. The Melansons were imprisoned at Forts Cumberland and Edward. Today, this large Acadian family the name of [MELANSON] MELANSON-MELANCON-MALANSON-MALONSON can be found in all of Canada, the United States and in France. These Acadians all descendents of PIERRE and CHARLES MELANSON arrived in Acadia during 3 ½ centuries. The majority of Charles' descendents returned to the former Acadia, resettling in Nova Scotia and Southern New Brunswick, and in the USA in the States of Maine and Massachusetts, most continuing to spell their name Melanson, but some have changed to Malanson and Malonson. The majority of Pierre's descendents however did not return, resettling in Louisiana, Quebec, and Northern New Brunswick, in the Bathurst region. It is this branch of the family that today predominately spells their name MELANCON. The only descendent of Pierre known to have returned to Nova Scotia was Charles Marie who settled in Pomquet after returning with his mother from exile in France. Philippe Mius
M, #432, b. circa 1609, d. circa 1700
Story* | Source: The Acadian Odyssey [432] Filhipe Mieux squire Master de Lendremont (or Philippe Mius D'Entremont) left La Rochelle in 1651, as major general to the new governor Charles de Latour. The latter granted him the Seigneurie of Pobomcoup (today known as Pubnico) in the extreme southwestern portion of Nova Scotia. Several d'Entremonts seem to have been deported to France where they settled at Cherbourg. Here it must be mentioned that Pubnico was for all practical purposes the only area in Nova Scotia where there were Acadians before, during and after the Deportation. The D'Entremonts are still prominent in the Pubnico region today.1
Note* | Philippe Mius First of all, let me say that a pree is a meadow – not a hill. The land where Pierre Thibodeau settled with his family became known as Chipoudy – today it is known as Hopewell and is in New Brunswick. Here is a small glimpse of who Emmanuel LeBorgne was: On December 10, 1657, Emmanuel LeBorgne was appointed Governor and Lieutenant-General of the disputed lands of Acadia. When Razilly died in 1635, and his estates were taken over by Charles d'Aulnay. d'Aulnay and Charles Latour were appointed jointly as Lieutenant-Governor of Acadia. The two fought each other from the first. In 1641, Latour's commission was revoked, and d'Aulnay was named governor and lieutenant-general of Acadia. Latour continued to harass d'Aulnay, and was declared an outlaw in 1644. He continued to harass the Acadian settlement until he finally took refuge in Quebec in 1645. d'Aulnay was now in complete control of Acadia, but he drowned in 1647. He had gone into considerable debt to try to get the colony on its feet. Emmanuel LeBorgne, one of his principal creditors, sent a representative to Port-Royal to seize the fort. Just at this time, Charles de Latour returned to France and was exonerated of all crimes and named Governor of Acadia by Louis XIV. He returned to Acadia with Philippe Mius d'Entremont, and he took over Jemseg for himself, and turned Cape Sable over to d'Entremont. This left Port-Royal for the widow of d'Aulnay. Charles de Latour then married the widow of his old enemy. He thus controlled almost all of Acadia, except a part still controlled by Nicolas Denys. During the spring of 1652, Emmanuel LeBorgne put Nicolas Denys in irons, and took over Port-Royal. In 1654, Major Sedgwick of Boston took Port-Royal from LeBorgne. The English left Port-Royal under a Council of local inhabitants, headed by Guillaume Trahan. Charles de Latour paid 5,000 pounds for intercession with Cromwell, and was appointed a share of Acadia jointly with Sir Thomas Temple. Charles returned to Cape Sable, where he died 10 years later at the age of 73. Meanwile Nicolas Denys had established himself at Bathurst, New Brunswick (called Nipisiguit at that time). LeBorgne again took him prisoner in 1654. Denys went to France and demanded reparation from LeBorgne, which was granted by the King, but by this time LeBorgne was a captive of the British. Nicolas died at Nipisiguit in 1688, a poor man 90 years old. He had had two sons, neither of whom left descendants. http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/lwjones/acadhist.htm Lucie Lucie LeBlanc Consentino Acadian & French Canadian Ancestral Home www.acadian-home.org Am-Can Gen Soc www.acgs.org CMA 2004 - www.cma2004.com Grand-Pré - http://www.grand-pre.com/ www.umoncton.ca/etudeacadiennes/centre/cea.html.

Story* | Notes on: Guyon Chiasson (RN=434). (CBE.282) Guyon was one ofCharles de Latour's men at Jemseg. Following the capture of thefort at Jemseg on 17 April 1645 by Charles de Charnisay, SieurD'Aulnay, Governor of Acadie, several companions of Charles deLatour, having been taken prisoners, were hanged, after Councildeliberation, as an example to others in the rebellion. Guyonwas spared and signed an attestation to this fact on 15 May 1645.Along with others from Jemseg, he returned to France, via NewYork. He later (about 1650) returned to Acadie following therehabilitation of Charles de Latour by the monarchy. FollowingJeanne's death, Guyon married at Quebec 7 October 1683 MarieMadeleine Martin. In the census of 1686 he is listed as havingeight children by his first wife, Jeanne, all born at Beaubassin. The Chiasson family, ancestors of Pierre Guyon, was at St.Sauveur de Nuaille, Department of Charente Inferieure, in the16th Century.
Occupation* | Guyon Chiasson was French Militia at.. at Jemseg.
Note* | He 1. GUYON (DION OR DENIS) CHIASSON dit LAVALLEE & (1) JEANNE BERNARD & (2) MARIE-MADELEINE MARTIN. Secondary Sources A. Godbout, "Les Bernard d'Acadie," ...: In the censuses of Acadia of 1698 [sic for 1693] and 1700, we find in Jean Beliveau's household Anne Lavallee, his niece, born in 1680. This Anne Lavallee was none other than Anne, daughter of Guyon Chiasson dit Lavallee and Jeanne Bernard, and the future wife of Jean Brau. She was Jean Beliveau's niece through her mother Jeanne Bernard, his uterine sister. There is no need, in order to explain the family relationship above-mentioned, to suppose that a marriage took place between Guyon Chiasson and a Beliveau, as Placide Gaudet did and as we did ourselves in following him. Besides, the census of 78 Beaubassin in 1686 does not admit of a marriage "Chiasson-Beliveau." Here is the text: "... from Lavallee's first marriage there are 8 children." There was thus only one marriage before the one contracted at Quebec on October 7, 1683, with Marie-Madeleine Martin. Michel Langlois ...(It must be mentioned that this author is mistaken in saying that Guyon Chiasson was married three times.) Biographical Notes "Among the families brought [to Beaubassin] from Canada by M. de la Valliere were the Chiassons, the Cottards, the Aubin- Mignaults, who later returned to their country." This statement is inaccurate with respect to Guyon Chiasson. This colonist first settled at Port-Royal, as the records of the marriages of his children Francoise and Jean give witness; if he went to Quebec in 1683, it was only to get married. 6 June 1668-25 Oct 1674: The name of Guyon Chiasson of Mouchecoudabouet is carried on the account book of the Le Borgnes.1
