Alexandre Broussard dit Beausoleil

Story* | | Notes on: Alexandre Broussard
(RN=400) (CBE.32) Alexandre was with his brother Joseph until 1755. In that year he was taken prisoner at Fort Beausejour (now Fort Cumberland) when it was captured by the English and was sent to Charleston, South Carolina. He escaped in February 1756 and rejoined Joseph along the Petitcoudiac River. He remained with Joseph until capitulation to Colonel J. Frye on 10 November 1759 at Fort Cumberland. He and his family were then sent to Halifax where they were detained until the Treaty of Peace in 1763. In November 1764, in the company of Joseph and a number of other Acadians, they came to Louisiana via Santo Domingo, arriving in early 1765. They settled in the Attakapas District but shortly after their arrival both Alexandre and Joseph died within a few days of each other during a smallpox epidemic. At least nine children are known to have resulted from the union of Alexandre and Marguerite.

(RN=402). (CBE.34) Paul Honore and his family were at Chipoudy (now Hopewell Hill, New Brunswick) until 1753 then moved to the Gaspe Peninsula where they are recorded as of 29 June 1754. On 12 August 1763, he, his wife and six children were at Halifax as prisoners of the English. the 9 April 1766 census of the Cabahannocer section of the Acadian Coast in Louisiana (present day St. James) lists Widow Melancon with four of her children, occupying six arpents of land on the west bank of the Mississippi River and having four hogs. The 14 September 1769 census of the Acadian Coast lists her with five of her children occupying Lot 15 on the west bank. The family apparently moved to the Attakapas District prior to 1777. Of the six children of Paul Honore and Marie Josephe only five are known.
