The Will of Pierre Guidry the "Patriarch of Grande Pointe;" This prevalence of large families should be obvious to anyone who had lived in this region, but if documentary evidence is needed to explain how it all started and who set the example, we need only to refer to the last will and testament of Pierre Guidry, one of the earliest settlers mentioned above, who was a native of Cobequid, Acadia (now Truro, Nova Scotia), married three times and had a family of twenty children. He so stated in the preamble and the first two paragraphs of his will, and these should be of sufficient interest to the hundreds of his descendants still living in this region to justify a quotation in translation. "On this the 4th day of November 1825, I, Pierre Guidry, resident of the parish of St. Martin, native of the country of Acadia, legitimate son of Augustin Guidry and Jeanne Hebert, both deceased, under my ordinary mark and in the presence of witnesses, finding myself sick in bed but entirely of sound judgment, memory and understanding, fearing to be surprised by death in view of the uncertainty of life and wishing to put my temporal affairs in order, have dictated in a strong and audible voice to Sr. Pierre Labyche, a resident of this Parish, my last wishes as follows: As a Catholic, Apostolic and Roman, I desire to be buried in the Catholic Cemetery of this Parish and I direct my testamentary executor to have three masses said for the repose of my soul, since this is my wish. I declare that I was married by our holy mother church three times; first with Marguerite Dupuy, now deceased, by whom I had two children who died in infancy. Secondly, with Claire Babin, now deceased by whom I had the following children still living: Olivier Guidry; Joseph Guidry; Jean-Baptiste Guidry; Hypolite Guidry; and Augustin Guidry. I declare that we had another son named David, now deceased, who left several children. Thirdly, with Marguerite Miller, now deceased, by whom I had the following ten children still living: Marguerite Guidry; wife of Pierre Broussard; Louis Guidry; Charles Guidry; Anastasie Guidry, wife of David Rees; Antoine Guidry; Pierre Guidry; Celestine Guidry; wife of Ransom Eastin; Arthemise Guidry, wife of Dr. John H. Thomas; Rosemond Guidry; and Felonise Guidry. I declare also, as a matter of record, that I had by her two children named Victorin Guidry and Divine Guidry, wife of Fletcher Picou, who left several children." |

Jean-Baptiste is not listed in the prisoner lists at Halifax or Ft. Edward, but at age 19, he was probably included as a ?child? with some family. Because of his close association with Thibodeaus and Pellerins, he may have been with Gregoire Pellerin. He came to Louisiana with Joseph Broussard where on 5 April 1765, he received a receipt for 604 livres in billetes in Canadian money (RECEIPTS). He settled in Attakapas where: In the 25 April 1766 Attakapas census is found: Juan Baptista [Sem?r] 1 militia man On both sets of the original census the last name is missing, but by the process of elimination, it has to be Jean-Baptiste Semer, age 22. Sometime before 12 Aug 1766, Jean-Baptiste wrote a letter to his father in Le Havre, France extolling the virtues of Louisiana and causing many there to petition the government to go to Louisiana (?Quest for the Promised Land? p. 77). Shortly after the 1766 census Jean-Baptiste Sem?r married Marie Thibodeau, daughter of Paul Thibodeau (White p. 1520) and Marguerite Trahan (White p. 1542) and widow of Pierre Surette. In the 1769 Attakapas census is found: Jean B. [aptiste] Semer age 25 Wife [Marie Thibodeau, widow Surette, age 28] Marie [Surette] age 8 [stepdaughter].

Story* | Notes on : Charles D'Amours de Louviere (RN=512) MMPFGPLMC. Sieurde Louviere, often called Sieur de lac Matapedia. Charles was @ St. Jean River till 1688. 1689 - Mathieu gave Charles land and fishing rights @ Matane. 1694 - Became Seigneau de Lac Matapedia (Seignory Matapedia) (2OO square miles). 1694 - (26-May) received Sieur (Lord of Lake Matapedia), taken out for his son Charles Nicolas. 1698 - on the St. Jean River (New Brunswick). 17O4 - Charles D'Amours and his brothers suffered great damage as the English raided and burned their St. Jean River estates. They then moved to Port Royal and later returned to Quebec. B.A. v4, p1628. (CBL.128) Charles did not initially reside in Acadie as did his brothers, but he spent sometime there beginning in 1683, reaching Jemseg, Nacchouac and even Port Royal. In 1687 he bought a 15 to 18 ton boat, the Sainte Anne, from Louis Jolliet to engage in fishing in the Gulf of St.Lawrence. Following his marriage in 1688 he established his residence in Quebec at the Place Notre Dame. In 1689 his father having given him a half league of land along the Matane River at Matane (on the south bank of the St. Lawrence River, at the beginning of the Gaspe Peninsula), he entered into the fur trade in association with Nicolas Perriot. However he soon sold his interests in the venture so that he could devote all his time to fishing, principally for cod and salmon. In 1694 he obtained the Seigneury of Lac Matapedia. That estate included all of the coastline of the lake and extended inland one league. The lake had approximately 32 miles of shoreline, which gave the estatenearly 200 square miles of splendid forests, around a lake teeming with fish. Following Marie Anne's death, he married at Port Royal in 1697 Marie Anne Louise Thibodeau and established himself at Riviere St. Jean, alongside his brothers, where he is listed in the 1698 census. However in 1704 the raid by Colonel Benjamin Church destroyed the settlement of the D'Amours brothers, and Charles returned to Quebec where his mother gave him 14 acres of her lands at Cap Rouge and Gaudarville. On 26 January 1714, he bought adjoining land. While cultivating his lands during the summer, he would still go fishing and would huntin the winter. During a fishing excursion in November 1716, he lost his life, most likely in a shipwreck. The inventory of his goods, begun on 18 April 1717, shows that he was not a wealthy man. Charles and Marie Anne Genaple had four known children, all born at Quebec.

He lived in the lower part of Quebec City, in the home of Pierre Lezeau, ship master, from 1685 to 1690. He accompanied Pierre Le Moyne d'Iberville in most of his campaigns, including that of Hudson Bay. He went to Acadie with d'Iberville in 1696 and raised his family there. In 1704 he and all his family were taken prisoner during the attack of Colonel Church against Port Royal and were taken to Boston, where he was kept as a hostage. After his liberation he returned to Port Royal where he lived in the section of the Cape, near the fort. He owned a ship plying between Sainte Anne du Pays Bas, Petitcoudiac, Chipoudy, Beaubassin, Pisiguit, Grand Pre and Port Royal. About 1730 he went to establish himself on the Riviere St. Jean, where he was one of the pioneers in founding Ste. Anne du Pays Bas (now Fredericton, New Brunswick). Barthelemy and Genevieve had seven children. Source: The Acadian Odyssey [516] Bartholémy Bergeron, sometimes called d'Amboise was born in 1664 at Amboise Indre er Loire. Pierre Thibodeau1
M, #520, b. 1631, d. 26 December 1704
Residence* | Pierre Thibodeau lived at Chipody, Shipody, Albert, New Brunswick, Canada; He was the founder of Chipody - present day - Chipoudie, Acadie Acadian community founded by Thibaudeau in 1698 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Searching for new land The lands are done rare in Acadie at the end of the 17 th century. The families are numerous. The English threat is always present. Between the river St-Jean, the northern coast of French bay and Isle St-Jean, the country is still wild. Spring 1698, Pierre Thibaudeau, his sons Jean-Pierre, Antoine, Pierre le cadet and Michel, his friend Pierre Gaudet and Guillaume Blanchard reach the end of the Chignectou Bay searching for new land. They go up the river called by the Malecites, Chipoudie, the Petcoudiak and the Memramkouke rivers exploring the banks. While returning in the basin of Chipoudie, they install a camp on the current site of Hopewell Hill, close to the town of Riverside-Albert, New Brunswick, between the Cap des Demoiselles (today Cape Rock) in the east and Cap Enrage in the west. In July, Pierre leaves two of his sons to the place which it names Chipoudie and goes to Naxouat in the top of the St-Jean river, in the governor of then, Monsieur de Villebon in order to obtain the authorization to found new establishments in the explored area. Mr. Michel Le Neuf, sieur de Valliere, lord of Beaubassin, estimates that the area of Chipoudie and Petitcoudiac forms part of its seignory and does not see a good eye the establishment of colonists without his assent. Mathieu Des Gouttins, lieutenant of justice of Port-Royal and son-in-law of Pierre Thibaudeau, will represent this last in this conflict. Establishment On return to Port-Royal, it organizes a group of people ready to be established in the new area. Guillaume Blanchard and his two sons, François Broussard, Andre and Jacques Martin, Jehan and Pierre Pître are number. Pierre carries flour for 6 months, of the tools, of the seeds, 2 oxen and 1 horse. at at the end of July 1698, on their return to Chipoudie, one builds a dwelling house, a cattle shed and a barn in which one piles up hay. The Malecites Indians, for a long time partners of Thibaudeau in the trade of the furs, take part in the browsing of the back-country in order to find a place there to build a mill with flour there actuated by the river. One works there until late the autumn. Before the arrival of large cold, one closes the buildings. Malecites settle on the spot for the winter. All the acadian ones turn over to Port-Royal. During the following winter, Pierre Thibaudeau proceeds to the preparations to supplement the foundation of Chipoudie. As soon as spring arrives, the conditions of temperature make so that a new departure takes place. One brings new provisions, 4 oxes and a herd of cows and ewe. Malecites accomodate them on their arrival with Chipoudie. One immediately begins the ploughings and the sowing. One continues during the summer, the clearing and the construction of buildings, the ditch and the aboiteau. Then the autumn is with the gate and one prepares at the beginning for Port-Royal. Three of wire of Pierre Thibaudeau, Antoine, Pierre the junior and Michel, remain in Chipoudie, for trapper with Malecites. The winter of the year 1700 occurs to continue the preparations. Pierre buys of the merchant Nelson of Boston, the mechanisms of a mill with flour and a saw mill. As soon as the spring temperature allows it, Pierre leaves for Chipoudie with his family. His/her companions of the first hour accompany it like 6 other young engaged boys with wages for 2 years Its three sons are always accompanied by Malecites there. One brings to it ammunition and provisions of all kinds, the mechanisms of the two mills and a complete farmyard: horses, cows, bull, pig, hens, geese, ducks. The ploughings are made and the sowing and one finishes the ditches and the aboiteaux ones. One undertakes the construction of another dam, in top of a cascade on a small fast river which is thrown in the basin of Chipoudie. This dam is intended to retain water and to create a tank to supply the mills. One also builds locks to regularize the water run-off towards the mills. With the autumn, the two mills are in a position to function. The buildings are finished. The meadows are bordered by 1400 meters of ditches and aboiteaux. To maintain the earthwork, young willows were planted. Pierre turns over to Port-Royal with his wife and his younger children. Its sons Antoine, Pierre the junior and Michel remain on the spot as well as the Pître brothers and the 6 men committed. To spring 1701, Pierre sends provisions to Chipoudie by the intermediary of the brothers Andre and Jacques Martin and Jean Pitre, come to marry with Port-Royal and turning over with their wives to settle there. During the summer 1702, Pierre, Jehanne and their children, Claude and Charles make a stay with Chipoudie. They return to Port-Royal at at the end of July. In 1702, Chipoudie has 7 families including 33 individuals. March, 20th 1703, the King of France confirm et keep the people of Acadie in their houses but keeping M. de la Vallière as Lord. Pierre died in 1704 without any rights on the newly colonized territory. In 1707, 55 individuals forming 14 families lived in Chipoudie. They owned 12 horses, 70 cows and 50 sheeps. In 1715, the population is estimated at 75 peoples including the Mic-Macs. The families continued to grow but slowly due to the fact the colony is occupied by the Englishs. M. de la Valliere does not give any help, choosing to develop the Beaubassin area. During 55 years, the descendants of Pierre Thibaudeau and his companions will make the community increase. In 1755, Chipoudie is a important village formed by many hamlets each side of the river, from Pointe à Marie to Cap des Demoiselles including a church, more than 160 houses and barns and many others buildings. The main and older part is situed on the north shore where the Notre-Dame de la Visitation church and the houses of sons and grandsons of Pierre Thibaudeau lived. The destruction August 10th, 1755, The Englishs attack the village of Chipoudie. The orders are to make prisoners men, women and children and take them back to Fort Beausejour and Lawrence and get them ready to be deported. They found nobody in the community. All the peoples hide in the forest. Three weeks later, August 31th, 1755, The Englishs are back. Most of the families hide in the forest. The soldiers have new orders, burn the village and make the peoples that still there, prisoners. The plan is to deprive the acadians of houses and food. They will be oblige to surrender to the Englishs. On September 1st, 200 soldiers take place in the bank. Few English men are said to be kill. More than 30 womens and children are captured and transport in the boat. They will serve as hostage to force the men to surrender. The harvest is destroy and the buildings are burning. This is the end of Chipoudie. After 1763, many acadians tried to get back there but with no property acts, they are forced to leave their land to the Loyalists.2
Story* | Notes on: Pierre Thibodeaux (RN=520). Moved with five sons from Port Royal to Chipoudy. Built a church @ Church Creek. Built a Flour mill @ Mill Creek. (CBL.136) Pierre arrived in Acadie about 1654 in the company of Emmanuel LeBorgne de Belle-Isle. He was a miller at Pree Ronde on the upper Port Royal River. In the 1671 census he is listed as a 40 year old plowman having seven arpents of cleared land. He founded Chipoudy (present day Hopewell Hill, New Brunswick) in 1698. Pierre and Jeanne were the parents of sixteen children, all born at Port Royal. FOR THOSE WITH THE SURNAME OR WHICH HAVE ANCESTORS WITH THAT SURNAME AND ITS ALTERNATIVES HISTORY AND GENEALOGY Your name is THIBAUDEAU, THIBODEAU or THIBODAUX and you live in North America. You are undoubtedly downward of the acadian pioneer Pierre THIBEAUDEAU (1631-1704) and his wife Jehanne TERRIAU (1644-1726). I propose you their history and their genealogy. AN ACADIAN PIONEER FAMILY From France aboard the ship Châteaufort, Pierre THIBEAUDEAU settled on 1654 in Acadie at La Pré-Ronde, close to Port-Royal (renamed Annapolis-Royal by the English). During one century, this place which one called Village of Thibeaudeau will be the place of meeting of his family. Pierre Thibeaudeau is the founder of the village of Chipoudie. Several of his children settle there and also in the area of Grand-Pré, in Pigiguit, la Rivière aux Vieux Habitants et la Rivière aux Canards. Pierre Thibeaudeau is not a hero or a historical character of great scale. He is one of those which contributed to their way, to build Acadie and America. Pierre and Jehanne had at least 18 children. Their descent dispersed on the continent, with the liking of the social, political and economic events. The Deportation of 1755 made so that one meets today descendants of Acadian everywhere in the world, especially in North America, as well in Canada as in the United States, mainly in Quebec, in New Brunswick, in Maine and in Louisiana. OTHERS In addition to the acadian Ancestor, other members of this family came to Nouvelle-France (see Thibaudeau de la Nouvelle-France) or are remained in Europe (see Thibaudeau de France. I am also interested in the history and the genealogy of these people. THE DIRECTORY OF THE DESCENDANTS OF PIERRE THIBEAUDEAU I am trying to constitute the DIRECTORY of the DESCENDANTS OF PIERRE THIBAUDEAU. You want to share information (your family tree, dates, places, notes, stories...), on one or more of your ancestors! I would like to obtain them in order to make some profit all those and those which wish to better know their origins. You can send them on paper with the address below, in format text or on file in format GEDCOM (generated by your software of genealogy) by electronic mail (EMail). I can try to answer your questions concerning the descendants of the pioneer or to display them about this site. YOUR ASCENDANCE I can send you your ascending line and thus, let you know how you are connected in Pierre THIBEAUDEAU. It is for you to supplement the genealogical information sheet. You will be thus registered with the DIRECTORY of the DESCENDANTS OF PIERRE THIBEAUDEAU. MY ASCENDANCE I also propose my paternal ascendance THIBAUDEAU , my maternal ascendance MEILLEUR and my plurimaternal ascendance, mother to mother. To display the index of the documents To join me: comments, suggestions, questions, answers or other... en français / in English Maurice Thibaudeau, Fort-Coulonge, Québec, Canada J0X 1V0 You can reproduce the contents of these pages for your personal use or the use of the members of a non-profit society of genealogy. La Prée-Ronde, Acadie Village of Thibeaudeau Version française The settlement The site of the Prée-Ronde would be one of the first places in North America, occupied by families of French origin. Towards 1610 and at least until 1636, some families made with the Baron de Poutrincourt and his son Charles de Biencourt, the Lambert families, Lejeune and Gaudet there will make culture and will trade with the MicMacs. The site could be inhabited until Pierre Thibeaudeau takes possession the year of his arrival in Acadie and until the English drive out them in 1755. Pierre THIBEAUDEAU acquires into 1654, a broad ground concession " in-the-high river of the Dolphin ", close to Port-Royal. The site carries the name of the Prée-Ronde or "Village of the THIBEAUDEAU". It is located at ten kilometers of the mouth of the river, in the heart of the valley of Port-Royal. It installs there a house with buildings of farm and a mill with corn and boards, actuated by a close relation river says "Des-Loups-Marins". The title of miller of the Prée-Round makes his fame. Occupation Acadian land since nearly 150 years, this place will be during more than one century the Thibeaudeau home place since with died of Pierre in 1704, his widow Jehanne always lives there. July 12, 1707, Jehanne Terriau makes gift of all its goods to his/her children (document with the Files of France and its colonies). Some of his/her children (whose Claude and Antoine) there always live with his death in 1726 and would have occupied the site at least until 1755. The Deportation What does it occur of this place after 1755? The ownership documents of the land of Acadian were not recognized by the English. The Deportation of Acadian and Acadian and the arrival of the English colonists Loyalistes in this area made disappear any trace from the first establishment of the Prée-Ronde. 1755, the English announce to Acadian joined together with the St-Jean-Baptiste church of Port-Royal, that all their goods will be seized, that they will be expelled of their lands and deportees in New England. The place and the river were renamed Round Hill. Only the ground point advancing in the river of the Dolphin (renamed Annapolis river) bears the name of Pre Ronde Marsh (marsh of the Prée-Ronde). Someone installed there a stele with the memory of Pierre Thibeaudeau in 1981. "Was born in Poitou, France. It came to Port-Royal with the Le Borgne. It obtained the Prée-Ronde where it is established. It build a mill to grind the grain on this river." Sources Index.

It build a mill to grind the grain on this river." Sources Index at Pre Ronde.1
