This will was published in The Magazine of Virginia Genealogy, Volume 33, Number 3, Summer, 1995. It was submitted by Lyndon H. This document provides proof of the sons of James Terrill and identifies, for the first time, his daughters." As the will was quite long I will abstract it -

David LEWIS was born in New Kent Co., VA and was christened on 5 May 1695 in St. Peters Parish, New Kent Co., VA. He died in Aug 1779 in , Albemarle Co., Virginia. David married Betty Ann TERRILL about 1717.

Birth recorded in St. Peters Register, p. 367. Woods Albemarle in Virginia stated that Joel Terrill and David Lewis were brothers-in-law (Dicken). In 1734 Joel Terrill and David Lewis patented 3000 acres north and west of what is now called Lewis's Mountain, 1600 belonging to Joel. When he died, he gave the land to his sons, William and Joel, although Joel eventually was owner of all of it, buying out his brother's interest. There is unconfirmed report that this Lewis line is the same as Meriwether Lewis of Lewis and Clark Expedition. Married a second time after first wife died (second wife unknown) and moved to Albemarle Co. VA about 1750.

See son John Lewis for descendant. The below was posted 12/99 by Rich Nallenweg on the Albemarle, VA forum:

Betty Ann TERRILL [Parents] was born about 1700 in , New Kent Co., Virginia. She died in 1734 in Hanover, VA. Betty married David LEWIS about 1717.

Her first child was born 1718. She is named simply "Ann" by Dicken. I found info on her in a quote from what I believe to be the Gen. Helper, Dec. 15, 1942 #6649, giving descendents.
Reference also: "Lewis and Kindred Families", by J.M. McAllister and L.B. Tandy

They had the following children:

  M i William Terrill LEWIS
  F ii Susannah LEWIS
  F iii Hannah LEWIS

Micajah CHILES [Parents] was born in 1690 in , Caroline Co., Virginia. He died in 1734 in , Caroline Co., Virginia. Micajah married Mary TERRILL.

Dicken says that the "Chiles family was among the old and prominent familes of that part of Virginia". Micajah's will was proved in Caroline County 8 Nov. 1734 by Martin Hackett and Ann Terrill (O.B. 1733-1740, p. 160)
His father is in dispute. Some say that he is the son of Henry Chiles of Hanover, VA., who may have been a descendant of Lt.Col. Walter Chiles. (Ellsberry Terrell Bulletin).

Some evidence says that Micajah has a different father:

Micajah Chiles was the son of Henry and Mary Chiles of St. Paul's Parish, Hanover County. There have been researchers who have identified him as the son of John Chiles (the ninth generation). This is erronous, although there is no birth record or will of his father, extant, to show Micajah's parentage.

John, the son of Micajah, died in Richmond County, North Carolina, and his will was recorded, in April 1786.1 In his will, he identified his brothers, Micajah and James Chiles, as legatees. He went on to identify that part of his "grandfather, Henry Chiles' deceased, estate that fell to him by his heirship". It is known, from the records, that these were all sons of Micajah.

Micajah must have grown up in Hanover County. He was probably the oldest of the children of Henry and Mary, but would not have not been of age before 1720, when his father died. It would seem that Micajah was born about 1705. If the supposition that William was the son of Henry and his ftrst wife, is correct, then Henry and Mary must not have married before 1704. a The dates cannot be accepted as completely accurate, because they have been based on an interpretation of the data.

Evidently Micajah received a share of his father's land, for there is on record later the sale of 50 acres of land, part of a tract sold by Micajah Chiles (1730) to John Jones. The land was on a southward branch and contained a water mill. It included a one-acre parcel deeded by Henry Chiles to William Chambers. Micajah had joined the migration to new lands, and had moved to Caroline County by this time.

All of his children were:

1.John Chiles.
2.Manoah Chiles.
3.Micajah Chiles. Jr.
4.Thomas Chiles.
5.Sally Chiles.
6.Anne Chiles,who married Henry Terrell.
7.Agatha Chiles,who married David Terrell.

Mary TERRILL [Parents] was born about 1690. She married Micajah CHILES.

Other marriages:
MILLS, Matthew

There is some dispute as to whether or not Mary is a dtr. of William. An article in the Virginia Historical Magazine (volume not given) on the Chiles family, does not know her first name, but says that she was a dtr. of Joel Terrell, Sr. This is based on records (Land Book XXXVIII, pp. 524-25, dated 6 April 1769) showing that John Chiles, son of Mary and Macajah, inherited land from his grandfather Joel Terrell. "(Copy): Whereas by patent, under seal of our Colony and Dominion of Virginia, bearing date of the ninth day of July, one thousand seven hundred and twenty-four, there was granted unto Joel Terrell one tract or parcel of land containing four hundred acres, lying and being in the County of King William, now Caroline, etc.; and whereas John Chiles, in whom right and title of part thereof supposed to contain 250 acres is etc., found to contain by survey 255 acres etc., Henry Terrell enters suit on same for accounting of the extra 5 acres in order to settle lines etc. Land said to adjoin that of Manoah Chiles." Mary's two daughters married sons of William Terrill and Susannah Waters. If she were also a dtr. of William Terrill, it would mean that they both had married their own uncles. This lends weight
to the idea that she was not the daughter of William. The dates of birth are just estimates and I suppose that it is possible that Joel Sr. was one of the first children of William and that he had this Mary who was of the age that Micajah Chiles could have married her.

A new note I found says:

Mary married Matthew Mills and continued to live in Caroline County. However, her husband had extensive land holdings and at one time, owned 2400 acres in Albemarle County (1745). He also owned over 1000 acres in Goochland County, adjacent to Ragged Mountain (1737). Matthew was the eldest son and heir of Henry Mills, who had lived in New Kent County.

Matthew and Mary had sons named, William Terrell Mills, Matthew, Charles and Menan Mills. Their daughters were named Mary and Betty. These children were named, not only in their father's will, but also, in the will of William Terrell Mills, recorded in Charlotte County, in 1769.

They had the following children:

  F i Agatha CHILES
  F ii Ann CHILES
  M iii Manoah CHILES
