"He was married to Elizabeath Patience EDWARDS (daughter of James EDWARDS and Elvira B. BOLEY) in Halifax County, Virginia. Elizabeath Patience EDWARDS died on 30 Sep 1857 in Halifax County, Virginia. She was born in Halifax County, Virginia. Richard P. TERRELL and Elizabeath Patience EDWARDS had the following children:

The name of the second wife seems to be in error as it is given two ways in the above paragraph. Either that, or he was married 3 times. I have put it in that way until it can be settled.

Elizabeth Patience EDWARDS was born about 1820 in , Halifax Co., Virginia. She died on 30 Sep 1857 in , Halifax Co., Virginia. Elizabeth married Richard P. TERRILL.

From: [email protected] (Harvey Powers): she was daughter of James EDWARDS and Elvira B. BOLEY

They had the following children:

  M i Thaddeus Thomas TERRILL
F ii Harriet E. TERRILL was born about 1855.

James TERRILL [Parents] was born about 1780 in , Pittsylvania Co., Virginia. He died in 1851 in , Caswell Co., NC. James married Mary Elizabeth TALLEY in 1809.

From: [email protected] (Harvey Powers):

"John A. Terrell Junior's research suggests that about the same time James Terrell married Mary Elizabeth Mackey Talley, in 1809, he moved to Halifax County, Virginia, to farm his wife's widow-mother's farm. She (James' mother-in-law, Mary) is listed as the head-of-household on the list of tithables. He does appear by name in the 1830 census of Halifax. Upon her death, in 1837, James and Mary Elizabeth move to Caswell County, North Carolina. On 28 June 1837, James buys 125 acres of land on Cobb Creek in Caswell County from Booker Boman. In that transaction, James is listed as "James Terrell of the County of Person."

Apparently he stopped in Person enroute to Caswell. Indeed, James does buy about 400 acres of land from Mr. Samuel Gordon. The land is listed as being on the west side of the South Hyco creek. James and Mary Elizabeth appear here (Caswell County, NC) in the 1840 census. In the 1850 Caswell County, NC census, his age is listed as 63. His wife is listed as Elizabeth, age 56. Richard is listed as 27 and a "saddlr." Martha is listed as 18 and Josiah as 15. James will is dated 23 Nov 1849 and mentions his wife "Mary M. Terrell"
and his children William, Richard, Josiah and Martha Ann. He notes that sons Lem (or it could be Sam) Banks Terrell and Pliney Fisk Terrell "left my service before they became of lawful age" and therefore he demands they pay $75 each to his estate if they want an equal share. In the Caswell County records of the April term 1857 (Book G, page 43), James Terrell's estate is shown as settled, with William E. Terrell, Martha Warren, R.P. Terrell and Josiah P. Terrell the only beneficiaries. In the accounting, coffins for "Mrs Terrell" and "Jas.Terrell" are noted. Each child got $67.17 so we will assume that it was for financial reasons that Lem Banks and Pliney Fisk did not pay their $75.

He was married to Mary Mickey Elizabeth TALLEY (daughter of Daniel TALLEY and Mary Mickey Elizabeath MACKEY) on 19 Jan 1809 in Halifax County, Virginia. Mary Mickey Elizabeth TALLEY was born in 1794 in Halifax County, Virginia.8 She died in 1857 in Caswell County, NC. While John Terrell, Jr. has always shown the name as Mary Mackey Elizabeth Talley, her father's will -- obviously written by another and signed by the Father's "mark -- shows the name as Mary Mickey Elizabeth Terrell."

Mary Elizabeth TALLEY "Mickey" was born in 1794 in , Halifax Co., Virginia. She died in 1857 in , Caswell Co., NC. Mickey married James TERRILL in 1809.

Name was given as: "Mary Emichael Elizabeth Mackey Talley."???

They had the following children:

  M i Richard P. TERRILL
F ii Martha Ann TERRILL was born about 1817.
  M iii William E. TERRILL
iv Pliney Fisk TERRILL was born about 1822.

From: [email protected] (Harvey Powers):

"John A. Terrell Junior says Pliney Fisk Terrell was a Baptist minister. He apparently married a widow, a Mrs. Farthing, in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, right after the Civil War. John Junior says everyone believed Mrs. Farthing's first husband died in the Civil War. However, after she remarried, her first husband re-appeared one day, and Pliney Fisk Terrell left, broken hearted. John Junior says he bacame something of a "hermit" on land between Thaddeus Terrell's and Harvey Street Powers' land in Lunenburg County. John Junior says he was something of a beloved character in the area.

Pliney Fisk Terrell and his brother, Sam Banks Terrell, did not stay on their father's farm as long as their father wanted and he gave them no share of his estate."
M v Sam Banks TERRILL was born about 1825.

From: [email protected] (Harvey Powers):

"Sam Banks Terrell (or it could be Lem Banks Terrell, its had to read his father's will), got less than a full share of his father's estate. Apparently he and his brother Pliney Fisk Terrell left their father's farm earlier than the father wanted. The father left them less than a full share of his estate unless they paid back to the estate money for their wages for the years James thought they "should" have stayed on his farm. Sam Banks apparently became an apprentice saddle-maker."
M vi Josiah P. TERRILL was born about 1830.

From: [email protected] (Harvey Powers):

"This may be the Josiah Terrell who was described in North Carolina records of the Civil War. There is a record of a Josiah Terrell who was shot, wounded, and imprisoned twice in the Civil War, he later went AWOL."

Richard P. TERRILL [Parents] was born about 1815 in Halifax Co., Virginia. He died on 15 Jun 1876 in Halifax Co., Virginia. Richard married Susan M. CLARK on 18 Oct 1871 in Person Co., NC.
