Joel TERRILL Jr. [Parents] was born on 22 Sep 1726 in , King William Co., Virginia. He died in Sep 1774 in Charlottesville, , Virginia. Joel married Anna LEWIS.

Joel became a dealer in real estate after inheriting half of 1600 acres from his father and buying the other half's interest from his brother, William. He owned considerable property in and around Charlottesville. His home was in town, on the corner of Market and Fifth where the City Hall now stands, and where he lived until his death. He married his cousin Ann, the dtr. of David Lewis. (Ellsberry) Is said to have operated a hotel at Charlottesville, VA., and Thomas Jefferson is said to have been among the boarders.

From: Albemarle Jefferson's County, 1727-1976, by John Hammond Moore:

"However, at least three tavern keepers were doing business within the county in the 1760's: Daniel Scott near the old courthouse on the James, Joel Terrell on the Three Notched Road just west of Charlottesville, and William Miche on the Buck MOuntain in the northern part of the county."

Susannah TERRILL [Parents] was born on 6 Jan 1721 in Virginia. She married Stephen WILLIS.

"Stephen Willis/Susannah Terrell had five children: George(1754-1827) m. Susannah Baker(1757-1843) and lived in Wilkes Co. ,Georgia; Joel, b. Aug. 9, 1756; Elizabeth,b. Sampson Harris(1763-1807), settled in GA."
Harold Kottmann

I thought that Susannah was Stephen's first wife, and died early. The above information, if accurate, would seem to make her his second wife. Or, perhaps his only wife. I then got this from same gentleman:

"The Stephen Jr's family is: Joel Terrell b. Oct. 14, 1783& d. Sept. 1786; Susanna Garland b. Dec. 15, 1785& d. Apr. 15, 1820- m. Thomas TERRILL [Parents] was born on 20 Aug 1730 in , Caroline Co., Virginia. He died in 1804. Thomas married Rebecca PEATROSS.

Sold his share of father's land to Reuben Terrill of Orange Co. VA. (#3232).

George Washington Papers Series 4. General Correspondence. 1697-1799 Thomas Terrill to George Washington, October 7, 1775, Request for Discharge Image 328 of 1137. To look this over, go to:

http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/mdbquery.html

and type in "Terrill" to search (or Thomas Terrill). It shows the copy of the actual discharge request for health reasons. I only have two Thomas Terrills in this age range, this man and one other. I don't know for sure which Terrill he is. Since this one lived a lot longer than the other one, it is more likely the other one if the health problems were as stated.

Rebecca PEATROSS was born about 1740. She married Thomas TERRILL.

They had the following children:

  F i Amy TERRILL

Richmond TERRILL [Parents] was born about 1775 in , , Virginia. He married Sarah Meriwether OVERTON on 24 Nov 1813 in , Louisa Co., Virginia.

There is a Richmond Terrell and wife Catherine who patented 100 acres on Lick Creek, Camden District, S.C. in 1786 and 400 acres more 1788. There are many later deeds, up to at least 1819. No record of his death. He is listed on census with 5 children in 1790, 9 children in 1800, by which time Catherine Terrell seems to have died. I am not placing him and his family under this Richmond, as there is no actual evidence they are the same, and this Richmond would be too young to have five children in 1790 (ages for several generations are just a guess, however). This Richmond IS the only Richmond on whom I do not have a wife's name already, so he is a prime candidate. I have entered the suspected family of this Richmond under Richmond #4881.

Sarah Meriwether OVERTON [Parents] was born on 11 Aug 1794. She married Richmond TERRILL on 24 Nov 1813 in , Louisa Co., Virginia.

They had the following children:

  F i Mary Walters TERRILL
  M ii William Overton TERRILL

William TERRILL [Parents] was born about 1800 in , Chesterfield Co., S.C.. He married Hannah about 1818 in , Chester Co., S.C..

Had a small farm in Chesterfield Co. and the family lived there until about 1850 when they moved to Itawamba Co., Miss. This line from Ellsberry's Bulletin.

Hannah was born in 1800 in , Chester Co., S.C.. She married William TERRILL about 1818 in , Chester Co., S.C..

Maiden name was probably Sealey. Living with her four smallest children in Atawamba Co., Miss. in Sept. of 1850. Seemed to have moved away, perhaps to TX

They had the following children:

M i Samuel TERRILL was born in 1821 in , Chester Co., S.C.. He died about 1907 in , Lamar Co., Texas.

Lived in or near Itawamba Co., Miss in the 1850is and then moved to Texas. Fought with the S.C. Palmetto Div. in the Mexican War.
M ii William TERRILL was born about 1828 in , Chester Co., S.C.. He died in , Hill Co., Texas.

Could be the same W.G. Terrill found age 22, living with his brother,
John, age 19, in the 1850 Pike Co. MO census.
M iii John TERRILL was born in 1831 in , Chester Co., S.C..

There is a John, age 19, in the 1850 Pike Co. MO census, next to William, 22.
M iv James TERRILL was born in 1833 in , Chester Co., S.C.. He died in , , Miss.
M v Wade TERRILL was born in 1835 in , Chester Co., S.C..
F vi Mary TERRILL was born in 1837 in , Chester Co., S.C..

John TERRILL was born about 1800. He died in 1863 in , Macon Co., Missouri. John married Martha.

Will written 2 May 1857 and recorded 1 Dec. 1863. Possible unproven candidates for this John would be #10303, 3839, 2873, 3187, 4088 or 3827 (latter prob. too young as he has a married dtr.) Witnesses to will were Joseph Summers & James E. Vestal.

Martha was born about 1810. She married John TERRILL.

They had the following children:

F i Mary Jane TERRILL was born about 1828 in , Macon Co., Missouri.

Called Mary Jane Clarkson in father's will, written 2 May 1857.
M ii William Newton TERRILL was born about 1830 in , Macon Co., Missouri.
M iii Reuben Henry TERRILL was born about 1838 in , Macon Co., Missouri.
F iv Elizabeth TERRILL was born about 1840 in , Macon Co., Missouri.

Fleming TERRILL [Parents] was born on 16 Feb 1778 in Chilesburg, , Virginia. He died in , Randolph Co., Missouri. Fleming married Lucy CONNER on 3 Feb 1800 in Caroline Co., VA.

Other marriages:
TERRILL, Matilda

Will date 9 Mar 1835 (Ellsberry). Lists wife and children. Names son-in-law, William R. Duerson and grandson William Fleming Bowlware (son of deceased dtr. Lucinda K. Bowlware) as executors. Mentions granddtrs. Elizabeth M. and Mildred but does not give connection. Witnesses: W.R. Samuel, Wm. D. Malone. Found in the 1850 Randolph Co. MO census as age 75, wife Matilda age 62. Ellsberry in her bulletin lists these 5 children and also lists a "George W. Terrill" as son of Fleming. She has spouses on all others and none on this George. I don't know what her source is for this. At another place in her bulletin she gives Fleming's will as 9 Mar 1835, so don't know which is right. She also gives Fleming's birthdate as 1778 in Chilesburg, VA, but I am using 1775 as he is shown as 75 on 1850 census.

From _History of Randolph and Macon Counties:

Huntsville Lodge No. 30, A. F. and A. M.: chartered by the Grand lodge of
MO Oct 8, 1840. There are only 3 names of charter members that appear on records. Edward SLATER, Fleming TERRILL, Thomas P. COATES.

The booklet, "Original Land Purchases of Randolph County, Missouri" by Cecille Taylor Rice, pub. by the Randolph County Historical Society has this on him:

Terrell, Fleming Jan, 14 & 15 1836 purchased 153 and 72 acres. On Oct 11, 1841, he purchased another 40 acres. These are on pp 14 & 15 original book.

I may have some information for you.
Fleming Terrell (b 16 Feb 1778 - from the old Dicken Terrill genealogy) m 3 Feb 1800 Caroline Co., Va., Lucy Connor - the last record I have for Lucy is on 1 Jun 1812 when she appears on a court notice. She was the daughter of Sarah Woolfolk & Francis Connor - he was an officer in the ARW & seems to have died as a result of the war. His widow recorded his estate as per Caroline Co., Va. Order Book. Her mother Sarah died in 1816 & her will is one of the few that remains in Caroline Co., Va. (I have a photo copy)

Caroline Co., Va. Guardian Bonds 1806-1821
10 Jul 1815 - Fleming Terrell was appointed gdn to his children with Timothy Chandler & Samuel Luck his securities - they were: Lucinda K. Terrell, Francis W. Terrell, (tear)E. Terrell, George F. Taylor, Sarah W. Taylor -

NOTE: so you can see that all these children were born before 1815 & since Lucy died
sometime between 1 Jun 1812 & 23 Dec 1813 when he remarried - their birth dates are
different than you have -

Fleming was at one time Sheriff of Caroline Co -

23 Dec 1813 - Fleming married Matilda Terrell - if Fleming has a daughter, Harriet then she must be a child of Matilda .

Lucinda Keeling Terrel b 1800 m 19 Jul 1819 William Bouleware
Francis Woolfolk Terrell bc 1804
Anne Elizabeth Terrell b 30 Mar 1807 & d 4 Jan 1881, m 12 Feb 1828 - George Slaughter b 9 Jul 1802 & d 18 Dec 1867 - they had 8 children with the glorious names like Lucicus Quintas Cincinatas, Thaddeus Roscivco, Flammancia Francis - (dates from Slaughter Gen & bible)
George Fleming Terrell bc 1809
Sarah Woolfolk Terrell bc 1812 - we think? that her mother died at her birth

All the marriage bonds are on file in the Caroline Co., Va. court house -
