Martha Washington HARRIS was born about 1809. She married Joseph Zachary TERRILL on 16 Apr 1827 in Louisa.

They had the following children:

M i Charles TERRILL was born about 1830.

There is an entry in "Who Was Who in America, Vol. I, 1897-1942" for a man who would be a likely candidate for Charles's son: "Frederick Terrell, banker, b. Lafayette, Ind., 31 March 1856; son of Gen. Charles Milton Terrell and Sarah Speake Terrell; desc. Wm. Tyrrell, from Eng. to Hanover Co. VA. abt middle of 17th Century; student Earlham College, Ind.; A.B. De Pauw, 1876; M.D., Harvard U., 1881; m. Marion Clement, Sept. 6, 1882 (died 1924); 1 dau., Sarah (Mrs. Albert G. Engelke).   F iii Barbara Overton TERRILL was born about 1835.

William TERRILL [Parents] was born about 1740. He died about 1812 in , Hanover Co., Virginia.

Dicken suspects relationship with father, but no proof. May be same as #7211.

He had the following children:

  M i William TERRILL Jr.

Matthew MILLS was born about 1680. He married Mary TERRILL after 1734.

Mary TERRILL [Parents] was born about 1690. She married Matthew MILLS after 1734.

Other marriages:
CHILES, Micajah

There is some dispute as to whether or not Mary is a dtr. of William. An article in the Virginia Historical Magazine (volume not given) on the Chiles family, does not know her first name, but says that she was a dtr. of Joel Terrell, Sr. This is based on records (Land Book XXXVIII, pp. 524-25, dated 6 April 1769) showing that John Chiles, son of Mary and Macajah, inherited land from his grandfather Joel Terrell. "(Copy): Whereas by patent, under seal of our Colony and Dominion of Virginia, bearing date of the ninth day of July, one thousand seven hundred and twenty-four, there was granted unto Joel Terrell one tract or parcel of land containing four hundred acres, lying and being in the County of King William, now Caroline, etc.; and whereas John Chiles, in whom right and title of part thereof supposed to contain 250 acres is etc., found to contain by survey 255 acres etc., Henry Terrell enters suit on same for accounting of the extra 5 acres in order to settle lines etc. Land said to adjoin that of Manoah Chiles." Mary's two daughters married sons of William Terrill and Susannah Waters. If she were also a dtr. of William Terrill, it would mean that they both had married their own uncles. This lends weight
to the idea that she was not the daughter of William. The dates of birth are just estimates and I suppose that it is possible that Joel Sr. was one of the first children of William and that he had this Mary who was of the age that Micajah Chiles could have married her.

A new note I found says:

Mary married Matthew Mills and continued to live in Caroline County. However, her husband had extensive land holdings and at one time, owned 2400 acres in Albemarle County (1745). He also owned over 1000 acres in Goochland County, adjacent to Ragged Mountain (1737). Matthew was the eldest son and heir of Henry Mills, who had lived in New Kent County.

Matthew and Mary had sons named, William Terrell Mills, Matthew, Charles and Menan Mills. Their daughters were named Mary and Betty. These children were named, not only in their father's will, but also, in the will of William Terrell Mills, recorded in Charlotte County, in 1769.

They had the following children:

M i William Terrill MILLS was born about 1736.

Left a will. His name is a strong indication of his mother's relation to William Terrell.

William TERRILL Jr. [Parents] was born about 1760. He married Judith GOODE on 27 Jan 1780 in , , Virginia.

I have no evidence that this Willam Jr. is the son of the William Sr. he is listed with here. Dicken however notes the marriage of William Terrill Jr. on 27 Jan 1780, and the age would be right, as would the location. There is no doubt that William Terrill Jr. existed, but his parentage is unproven.

There is also a William Terrell b. 6 Aug 1760 "on the Neuse River in North Carolina", and d. 4 July 1851 in DeKalb Co., Georgia. He was a Rev. War soldier from S.C. and lived in Lancaster Co., S.C. until 1826, when he moved to GA. Lancaster deeds show that he bought land in 1794, 1797, and 1799 and sold land in 1826. He is listed with 2 dtrs. in 1790, and 2 more dtrs. and 3 sons by 1800. He is also listed with wife and some even younger children in 1820 census. According to the Rev. War pension application, however, he died without surviving heirs, but it is suspected that this means no heirs in DeKalb Co., as he clearly had a large family. Grace Terrell bought land in Lancaster Co. in 1798 and 1811 and is listed in 1820 living alone and over 45. No other record of her.

Judith GOODE was born about 1760. She married William TERRILL Jr. on 27 Jan 1780 in , , Virginia.

PULLIAM was born about 1745. He married Agatha TERRILL.
