       Source 14 & 34 states that likely this noble family of Cotton, of
       Landwade CAM ENG, was originally extracted from the Manor of Cotton
       in Parish of Stone KEN ENG.
       
       Source 26 gives, John de Cotton held that manor in 20 Ed III
       (1345/46).  Other authorities say that Sir Henry Cotton lived in the
       seat of his ancestors at Cotton Hall in Ixning SFK ENG.
       
       Differences
       Sir Henry is referenced in the book A Cotton Genealogy of his
       Descendants by LaVerne C. Cooley (source 26) and it gives that he was
       born in 1374.  This date seems to be in error based on the death
       dates given for various g g grandchildren.

Rev. John COTTON (1640-1699) [Pedigree]

       REF Savage. Rev. J. Cotton was excommunicated from his fathers
       church for "three aggravating offences". He made an open
       confession and was restored in one month. He was ordained at
       Plymouth 30 June 1669. After serving nearly 28 years, he was
       dismissed 5 Oct.1697 "under very unpleasant circumstances". He
       went to Charleston S.C. Nov.1698, and was a minister there
       until he died of yellow fever 18 Sept., 1699. A ship had
       brought yellow fever to the city from Barbados. Over 100 died
       by the end of Sept.
