Ima Mae Holbrook
North Wilkesboro - Mrs. Ima Walker Holbrook, 104, of Colonial Drive, the wife of the late DeLoss Holbrook, died Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2003, in the Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with Dr. N. Nelson Granade Jr. officiating. Mrs. Holbrook was born Oct. 27, 1898, in Olin to James Robert and Margaret Campbell Walker. Ima attended Lenoir Rhyne and Greensboro colleges. She was a former school teacher and employee of Southern Bell. Ima was the town clerk of Wilkesboro from 1956 to 1971. She was the assistant director of the Auxiliary Service for Wilkes General Hospital from 1971 to 1981. She is survived by a daughter, DeLoris H. Porter of North Wilkesboro; three grandchildren, Rebecca E. Porter of Chapel Hill, Frank Porter and wife Rika H. Porter and Holly Porter, all of Charlotte; four great-grandchildren, Jordan and Katharine Edwards of Chapel Hill and Alexandra and Madison Porter of Charlotte; and two sisters, Iona Grant of Statesville and Eura Weaver of Ervin. The family would like to express special gratitude to her caretaker, Betty Alexander.The family will receive friends at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Moss Chapel Cemetery Fund, c/o Jane Purvis, 336 E. Magnolia Road, North Wilkesboro, North Carolina 28659.
