North Wilksboro -- Mrs. Cleo Kilby Hayes, 89, widow of Gwyn Hayes of College Street, Wilkesboro, died Saturday, Feb. 10, at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Hayes was born April 19, 1911, in Wilkes County to Will and Lura Long Kilby. She was the former co-owner/operator with her husband of the Cardinal Motel in Boone. Mrs. Hayes was a member of Mountain Valley Baptist Church, Millers Creek. Surviving are one son, Garvey Hayes of Ivanhoe, Va., one daughter, Willa Rhoades of North Wilkesboro, one sister, Sina Kilby Walsh of North Wilkesboro, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 7:45 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12 (tonight), at Miller Funeral Chapel, 180 Sparta Road, North Wilkesboro, with the Rev. Don Crockett officiating. Committal Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mountain Valley Baptist Church Cemetery, 1264 Mountain Valley Church Road, Millers Creek. The family will be at Miller Funeral Service 6:30-7:30 p.m. tonight prior to the funeral. Parents: William Uriah KILBY and Lura LONG.
