"C.G. Brobst started East Wednesday 11th, therefore no reckords during the time — he Returned Saturday August 4th, whilest I was gone and in Catawissa the fearful Rail Road Strike and Riot took place — loss at Pittsburg Depot Round House Grain Elevator with 125000 Bushel wheat and 135 to 175 cars burned loss Estimated not less than three million dollars.

This was called the Great Railroad Strike and there was considerable violence and property damage in Pittsburg.
