MAD: most items were small typed cards, 3x5; some items were very blurred in the filming and were double images and hard to read. Cards had name and rank in upper left corner, service unit usually in upper right corner, notation if Home Guard, details from source were given in center of card, and the "Authority" as the last line on the card. The service record from the Historical Record Roll frequently listed several engagements he served in, dates wounded, absent, present, etc., and I usually did not copy all the details.

Duncan of Selma, Dallas Co. AL, ... that he is advised that he is probably excluded from the benefit of the proclamation of general amnesty ... he was not worth $20,000 on the 29th day of May 1865 but is now worth more than that sum ... Petitioner (supported?) the Confederate States by being in the army as a soldier, by contributing his means toward the support of the families of soldiers, and toward the Independence of the Southern States. ... Petitioner is not under arrest, ... and in the future will be a peaceable legal citizen. ... He took the oath of amnesty on the 30th day of August A.D. 1865. /s/ B.J. Duncan, 12 Oct. 1865.
