One source has his father as John Swearingen, and says that he married second to Nancy Blanton, with no children listed. I then got this email 3/99:
I don't know if you are interested in related families, but thought I might mention that James Obediah Swearingen who married Francis E. Wayland in 1861 is descended from the immigrant Gerret van Sweringen from Holland, who came to America in 1660's. I have a copy of "Family Register of Gerret van Sweringen and Descendants," compiled by HH Swearingen in 1894. Please let me know if you are interested in this information. The biography on his son, James, says that Joseph had 7 children. Perhaps the other two died in childhood.

of Nicholasmakes one think that this Joseph may have had brothers (or cousins) William and Nicholas who came with him. Since it is 1822 document they had to be born before the turn of the century to be 21 year old adults, which is required in land deeds, so they could hardly be Joseph's children.
Nancy SHORT was born on 9 Jan 1806 in , Washington Co., Kentucky. She died on 9 Jan 1845 in , Boone Co., Missouri. Nancy married Joseph SWEARINGEN on 2 Mar 1824 in , Howard Co., Missouri.

I have a copy of Sons of the American Revolution, National No. 111167, indicating that William Maurice Melone is a member based on the service of John Melone Sr. in the revolution.
I have another document showing John and Rebeckah Melone signing permission for their dtr., Susan, to marry Richard M. Chapman in Orange Co., VA 20 Aug 1817. Either John was considerably older than Rebeckah, or this is not likely to the same one as he would be about 67 when dtr. married.
Later evidence shows this to be true. I have the dates and he is 19 yrs older. John Melone is said to have served under Capt. John Davidson's Co. of 2nd Maryland Regt., Commanded by Col. Thomas Price, from Sept. 1776 to Feb. 24, 1779..3 years. From General Service ADM Records of Muster Rolls, he was in White Plains, N.Y...Fishkill. He was taken prisoner Aug. 22, 1777, and rejoined July 10, 1778. Discharged in Camp Middle Brook.
Rebecca BURRELL [Parents] was born in 1768 in , Frederick Co., MD. She died on 22 Jan 1853 in Stanardsville, Greene County, VA and was buried in , , VA. Rebecca married John MELONE in , , Maryland.
