Edward BENTON was born about 1610. He died on 28 Oct 1680. Edward married Anne.
Came possibly from Wethersfield or Milford to Guilford as one of the early settlers, though not a signer of the Plantation Covenant. He was in Guilford as early as 1643; the oath of a freeman was given him 19 May 1651. He owned two acres as a home lot on the west side of the Green, and 63 acres elsewhere. He was a brother of Andrew Benton of Milford and Hartford, who died 31 July 1683 and who had a large family by his wife Hannah Stocking. Son Daniel was deceased at the time of his will, but he provided for Daniel's widow and also for a crippled son. Children named in the "Genealogies of Connecticut Families", Vol. 1., p. 115 and following. The book, "History of the Colony of New Haven" by Edward Atwater, says that Edward came to New Haven directly from England in the second ship in 1639. He lived in Hartford in 1659, but was again in Guilford in 1669. He had ten or more children. See also N. Eng. Gen. Reg., vol. 54, page 175.

His lot in 1669 was one of two and a half acres on the north side of the Green in Guilford and was sold by their descendant, Lot Benton, in 1829, to the First Congregational Church as a site for church and parsonage.

Lived in Guilford. See the "History of the Colony of New Haven" by Edward Atwater, p. 631. He was original colonist to Guilford, on the first ship which arrived 1639. He was one of the signers of the compact of June 1, 1639. I received some info on this line in the form of a photocopy of a page from
a book titled "In America" by L.W. Case, pub. 1889, chapter titled "The Goodrich Family" from a correspondent, Donald Derr. It lists line of Richard, Bartholomew, William, Daniel, Samuel.
Dinah was born about 1620. She married Richard GUTTRIDGE on 7 Jun 1646.

Ebenezer BENTON [Parents] was born in 1663 in Guilford, , Conn.. He died on 22 Jan 1758. Ebenezer married Abigail GRAVES on 14 Jun 1694.
Had title of "Ensign" and is put down in 1690 as having served in the Indian wars. Spent the last part of his life in the part of Guilford known as
Burchen Swamp. He resigned his position as an Ensign on 12 Oct, 1727, because of "old and infirm" (Conn. Co. Recs.) yet lived 21 years longer to age 95. The "Genealogies of Connecticut Families", Vol. 1, lists his 6 children and their lines, but I am entering only one here.
Abigail GRAVES [Parents] was born about 1670. She died on 13 Apr 1753 in Guilford, , Conn.. Abigail married Ebenezer BENTON on 14 Jun 1694.

Gen doc #26 lists both marriages and children. It is really old...see photo under husband. In Talcott's book, she is listed as the "widow Sarah Baldwin" and I'm not sure if Baldwin is her married name or maiden name.
