The book, "History of The Colony of New Haven" by Edward Atwater, pub. 1902, republished 1989 by Heritage Press, lists the original settlers of Guilford. It quotes a book on the "John Stone Family Genealogy" pub. in 1888, which says that the first ship, the St. John, commanded by Captain Russell, sailed from England on May 20, 1639, and arrived at New Haven between July 10-15, 1639. It lists the persons who are believed to have been on this first ship and includes John Stone and these other ancestors of mine: John Bishop, William Chittenden, Abraham Cruttenden, Richard Gutridge (Goodrich), John Jordan, and possibly the following: William Dudley, Thomas Norton, and John or William Stone (through Deborah). I am also descended from the following who arrived on the second ship in July 1639: George Bartlett, Edward Benton, John Scranton, and probably Jacob Sheafe, and Richard Bristow. I am descended from John Fowler, and George Hubbard who were on the lists of the 48 planters of 1650 and 1652 in Guilford, who arrived later. So, I am descended from 10 known original Guilford residents prior to 1650, and possibly 5 more.

I need to do research to see if she is descended from Capt. Nathaniel White of Middletown (1629-1711), ref. the "Coit Family Genealogy", 1874, Hartford, p 341 by F.M. Chapman. Capt. White married Martha Coit (1644-1737), widow of Hugh Mould, abt 1693. Martha was the dtr. of John Coite (d. 1659), a shipwright, was was at Salem in 1638 with wife Mary (1596-1676) and then removed to New London in 1650. See "History of the Colony of New Haven" by Edward Atwater, pub. 1902, republished 1989 by Heritage Books.

Most likely she is a Cruttenden and desecended from that line, but I have not researched and proven this.
