I have a news article on the life of Comfort, which I scanned (6.jpg) that was written by Mary Hadley Griswold. There is no date on it, but it was written in the early 1900's, told by early auto ad on back. It tells the entire life history of Comfort and mentions his daughter's marriage to Ebenezer. It indicates that he was living in Middletown, Conn. when he left in 1694 as a young man on a day's journey to Guilford. He was 25 and stayed at an inn run by the father of Elizabeth Hopson, age 20, whom he fell in love with and later married. Comfort's father had died the previous year. Comfort became a tailor, "a most honorable occupation and a most necessary one for the settlement." He did well and became a large landowner and left a handsome property when he died and being married for 49 years to Elizabeth. "His remains lie beneath the turf of Guilford Green, between the Soldiers' Monument and western boundary." It lists his children at his death: "There had been eight children, but one son, another Comfort, had died years before at the age of 18. There remained five daughters and two sons, the three oldest children being daughters. Elizabeth was the wife of Ebenezer Fowler; Hannah of Ensign Nathaniel Dudley; Abigail of John Graves, Esq. Jonathan married Agigail Caldwell; Submit never married; Amy was the wife of John Davis and Jehosaphat married Elizabeth, daughter of Rev. Thomas Huggles, the Elder.
