Following are pictures of many of the tombstones in the St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Cemetery. This is not a complete list. Over the 4th of July 2000 weekend and mid-October 2000, Bruce and I visited several cemeteries in the Platte, Nance, Boone and Merrick Nebraska counties. Many of my maternal ancestors helped settle the St. Mary's community and were instrumental in building the St. Mary's Church.

These photos were taken with a digital camera and have been cropped to conserve on space. If you would like a full size shot of a tombstone please email me. I'd be glad to share what I have.

John and Margaret married 5 Feb 1901 at St. Mary of the Angel's Church, Platte County, Nebraska. They were the parents of nine children.

*According to the 1900 Platte County census for Grand Prairie Twp., John and Anna Maria BACH immigrated in 1892 with their five children: Peter, Mary, Margaret, Melina and Ludwig. They were all born in Prussia Germany. Anna Maria indicated her parents were both born in France.

The St. Francis Church Centennial book indicates Margaret's parents were John BACH and Anna Marie WYLAND. The Platte County marriage extracts show Margaret's mother's name as Anna Maria BRAUN.

Gerhard and Anna SOMMERS BROCKHAUS have no direct relationship to Marge. Several of the BROCKHAUS family are related through marriage. Their daughter Mary married Vincent WIESER, Marge's second cousin third removed. Elizabeth Mary, a Granddaughter of Gerhard and Anna, daughter of Joseph and Josephine FANGMAN BROCKHAUS (buried St. Francis Assisi, Humphrey), married Marge's Granduncle Hellmuth Paul THOMAS.

The following excerpt is from a BROCKHAUS Family History that my Mother had in her genealogy papers:
On December 1, 1879 Anna died from what might have been cancer, leaving Gerhard with the seven children. In 1883 tragedy again struck when a diphtheria epidemic took the lives of Henry (age 18), Bernard (age 12), and Ferdinand (age 10) during a two week span.
