Frank THOMAS
( Johann Franz Wilhelm TOMAS )
November 21, 1839 - December 22, 1915

This is the grave site of my great great grandfather Frank THOMAS. According to my Mother, when Frank was buried at St. Mary's Cemetery, there was no money to buy a stone to mark his grave. The priest wanted the grave marked, however. Frank's son Ferdinand was a stone mason. So, Ferdinand poured a border of cement around his father's grave to mark the site. He wrote the initials "F T" in the cement border at the foot of the grave.

Excerpt from biography of son, JOSEPH M. VEIK.
[Joseph M. Veik's] parents are Joseph and Theresa (Falk) Veik, natives of Austria. The father was a weaver in the old country and came to America in 1876, settling in Platte county, upon land in Humphrey township which he purchased. Later he sold the original place and bought the farm upon which Joseph M. Veik now resides. He improved this and continued its cultivation for many years but finally retired and removed to Humphrey, where he spent his remaining days, his death occurring in January, 1911. His widow now resides in Oklahoma.

See bio for Joseph M. VEIK in PAST AND PRESENT OF PLATTE COUNTY, pgs. 57-58.
