The progenitor of the Courson families of the "Wiregrass" region of Georgia and Florida, USA, is documented as William Thomas Courson (born ca. 1760). Other Courson families of Georgia, Alabama, Texas, and Arkansas, USA, descend from James Courson (ca. 1762 - 1834). Genetic analysis of Y-chromosome DNA from each of these Courson family lines indicates that they share a common ancestry, perhaps within the United States. One hypothesis is that William Thomas Courson and James Courson were brothers. Search for documentation that would describe their relationship continues.
