This is the family that gives us fits when we try to find the parents of our James Whaley. They are probably cousins - they live in the same place in Virginia, then many of the descendents move to Bourbon Co., KY and some on to Missouri just like ours did.

Second Generation

3. William² Whaley (James¹) was born in New Kent Co.? VA 1717.

He married twice. He married Lena Mason in VA, ca 1737. Lena died aft 1754 in Loudoun Co., VA. He married Barbara Remy in Loudoun Co., VA, aft 1754. Barbara was the daughter of Jacob Remy and Sarah (Unknown) Remy. This is the same Barbara who had 7 children by her brother-in-law, James Whaley who was married to her sister, Lydia Ann.

William Whaley and Lena Mason had the following child:

5 i. William³ Whaley was born in Loudoun Co., VA 1754. William died 14 Aug 1824 in Harricon Co., KY, at 70 years of age. William enlisted Feb 1779 Loudoun Co., VA & was a Sergeant in Capt. Peyton Harrison's Co., 2nd Va Regt. in the Revolutionary War. He was a pensioner at the time of his death. He never married.

William Whaley and Barbara Remy had the following children:

   6 ii. Sarah Whaley was born in Loudoun Co., VA ca 1772. She married Dr. Gage Cleveland in Loudoun Co., VA?, ca 1792.
            She resided in Harrison Co., KY.
   7 iii. Kate Whaley was born in Loudoun Co., VA ca 1774. She married John Johnson in VA?, ca 1794.
   8 iv. Jemima Whaley was born in Loudoun Co., VA 1776. She married Archelaus VanHook in Bourbon Co., KY, 27 July 1799.
+ 9 v. Leland Whaley was born 8 Apr 1782.

4. James Jr.² Whaley (James¹) was born in New Kent Co., VA 19 Jul 1728. James died 1784 in Cameron Parish, Loudoun Co., VA, at 55 years of age.

He married twice. He married Lydia Ann Remy ca 1748. Lydia is the daughter of Jacob Remy and Sarah (Unknown) Remy. He married Ann (Unknown) Carter in Loudoun Co., VA, ca 1769. She was the widow of James Carter. This is the "scoundrel" James Whaley that lived and died about the same time as our James Whaley. He is what we call "The Other James Whaley".

James had 7 children by his sister-in-law, Barbara Remy, to whom he was not married. She later married James' brother, William Whaley.

1758 - Order Book A, page 98, Loudoun Co., VA states that at a Circuit Court held 8 May 1758, "the Grand Jury presented Barbara Remy for having a base born child within six months past and James Whaley Jr.for absenting from his wife and taking up with anohter woman & his wife's sister and having a base born child by her within six months." 1759 - Order Book A, page 208, states that "At a Circuit Court held 13 March 1759, upon the proceedings returned against James Whaley for breach of the peace, the said James appeared here this day according to his recognizance and thereupon Ann Whaley was sworn against him and he heard his defense. On consideration whereof it is ordered that the complaint be dismissed and that said James be discharged from his recognizance aforesaid." An aside from this book - Apparently wealth and influence were deciding factors in this decision because James Whaley had six more children by Barbara Remy. He acknowledge them in his will, surnaming each Remy but adding to each name, "commonly known as Whaley."

James Jr. Whaley and Lydia Ann Remy had the following children:

10 i.	Elizabeth³ Whaley was born in Loudoun Co., VA b 1751. Elizabeth died 1823 at 72 years of age. She married William Bernard Sears in Loudoun Co., VA?, ca 1771.
11 ii.	John Whaley was born in Loudoun Co., VA ca 1753. John died Oct 1807 in Mason Co., KY, at 54 years of age. He married Nancy (Unknown) Whaley in VA?, ca 1776. John's will is on file in Mason Co., KY. He served in the Revolutionary War and received a land grant. He established Whaley's Station next to Simon Kenton's Station in Mason Co., KY 1785 as mentioned in Collins History of Ky, Vol. 2, p. 555. He was a signer of the 2nd petition to make Mason a county.
12 iii.	Barbara Whaley was born ca 1756.

James Jr. Whaley and Barbara Remy had the following children: (THEY WERE NOT MARRIED)

iv. Jacob (Remy) Whaley was born in Loudoun Co., VA ca 1757.

v. Benjamin T. (Remy) Whaley was born in Loudoun Co., VA 1760. Benjamin died 7 Sept 1835 in Bourbon Co., KY, at 75 years of age. He married Jane Vance.

vi Jame (Remey) Whaley was born in Loudoun Co., VA ca 1764. He married Eleanor Brown in VA?, ca 1784.

vii Elizabeth (Remey) Whaley was born in Loudoun Co., VA ca 1765. She married Moses Thomas in VA?, ca 1785. She resided in Bourbon Co., VA.

viii Rebecca (Remey) Whaley was born in Loudoun Co., VA ca 1766. She married Dr. Hayden.

ix Henry (Remey) Whaley was born ca 1768.

x Elijah (Remey) Whaley was born in Loudoun Co., VA ca 1770. Elijah died 1833 in Harrison Co., KY, at 63 years of age. He married Mary Worster 1810. Mary was born in Fairfax Co., VA 1790. Mary died in Harrison Co., KY. Elijah "married a cousin, Mary Worster".

James Jr. Whaley and Ann (Unknown) Carter had the following child:

20 xi. George Whaley was born in Loudoun Co., VA ca 1770.

Third Generation

Leland³ Whaley (William², James¹) was born in Loudoun Co., VA 8 Apr 1782. He married twice. He married Mary Talbott in Bourbon Co., KY, 17 Oct 1805. Mary was born in VA. Mary was the daughter of Henry Talbott and Barbara Whaley. Mary died ca 1818 in Bourbon Co., KY. He married Keturah Talbott in Bourbon Co., KY, 22 Jan 1819. Keturah was born in VA. Keturah was the daughter of Henry Talbott and Barbara Whaley.

Leland Whaley and Mary Talbott had the following child:

Harriett⁴ Whaley was born in Bourbon Co., KY 1 Oct 1806. Harriett died 1863 in MO, at 56 years of age. She married Benedict Whaley in Harrison Co., KY, 14 Dec 1828. Benedict was born in Maryland. Benedict was the son of Henry (Remey) Whaley. Benedict died in MO. Benedict and Harriett married when he was on a visit to KY from MD. They lived in Nicholas Co., KY until moving to MO in the 1850's.

Barbara³ Whaley (James Jr.², James¹) was born in Loudoun Co., VA ca 1756. She married Henry Talbott. He married 1st Hannah King., sister to Penelope King, 2nd wife of OUR James Whaley.

Barbara Whaley and Henry Talbott had the following children:

i.	Mary⁴ Talbott.
ii.	Keturah Talbott was born in VA. She married Leland Whaley in Bourbon Co., KY, 22 Jan 1819. Leland was born in Loudoun Co., VA 8 Apr 1782. Leland was the son of William Whaley and Barbara Remy. He married Mary Talbott in Bourbon Co., KY, 17 Oct 1805.

Henry (Remey)³ Whaley (James Jr.², James¹) was born in Loudoun Co., VA ca 1768.
He resided in Maryland.

Henry (Remey) Whaley had the following child:

24 i. Benedict⁴ Whaley.

Fourth Generation

. Mary⁴ Talbott (Barbara³ Whaley, James Jr.², James¹) was born in VA. Mary died ca 1818 in Bourbon Co., KY. She married Leland Whaley in Bourbon Co., KY, 17 Oct 1805. Leland was born in Loudoun Co., VA 8 Apr 1782. Leland was the son of William Whaley and Barbara Remy. He married Keturah Talbott in Bourbon Co., KY, 22 Jan 1819.

Leland Whaley and Mary Talbott had the following child:

21 i. Harriett⁴ Whaley was born in Bourbon Co., KY 1 Oct 1806. Harriett died 1863 in MO, at 56 years of age. She married Benedict Whaley in Harrison Co., KY, 14 Dec 1828.
