OTHER INFORMATION
Clinton County was founded in 1810 and was named in honor of George Clinton who was vice-president at the time of the county's organization. Clinton had been a delegate to the second Continental Congress.
Many of the early settlers were Quakers whose influence made Wilmington the county seat. In 1870 they established Wilmington College.
