NOVA SCOTIA |
I have been assiduously searching for links to my Harvey roots, antedating James (circa1819) who operated a sawmill in Brookfield, Colchester County, Nova Scotia.)
Beyond that, there is a James Harvie who emigrated to Newport, Hants County, Nova Scotia, from Rhode Island, whence they emigrated from the town of Dairy in the shire of Ayr, Scotland.
I am looking for information on Nicholas Harvie and Elizabeth (Ettinger) Harvie and their families. Nicholas had a son, Nicholas Robert Harvie who is supposed to have been born on 23 Dec 1851 in Nova Scotia. In 1870 he emigrated to the United States (Boston, MA then Providence) and in 1873 he came to California, USA. So far, I have only found mention of two Nicholas Harvies, one living in 1871 in Lockhartville, Horton Township (King's Co?) Nova Scotia; and one a "pound keeper, gaoler" in Charlottetown, Charlotte, Queen's Co, Prince Edward Island (also 1871). The latter may be the same Nicholas Harvie, who was appointed jailer in Charlottetown in 1844. This is all I the leads I currently have on the family. I do not even know what types of records may be available (i.e. Census Records? Tax Records?). I would be grateful for any help or pointers that you may be able to provide.
Thank you for your time.
