Samplers stitched by Hannah Sisson and her sister Susanna Sisson are pictured in the book "Let Virtue Be a Guide to Thee: Needlework in the Education of Rhode Island Women, 1730-1830" by Betty Ring (Providence: Rhode Island Historical Society, 1983) on page 78 and 79, color plates 21 and 22. Quoting: "Susanna was fifth among the nine children of Joseph Sisson (1765-1847) and Priscilla Taylor (1764-1854) who moved from Portsmouth, Rhode Island, to Newport about 1801. Samplers made by four of the six Sisson girls survived together. Susanna and Hannah must have had the same instructress. The pieces worked by Roth (b. 1795) and Lois (b. 1804) are stylistically unrelated. All four are in the Museum of Art, Rhode Island School of Design." "Born in Newport, Hannah Sisson . . . married Parker Lawton (b. 1802) in Newport's Baptist church on December 24, 1829, and they had at least one daughter. She was married for the second time, on Oct 1, 1836, to Benjamin Greene (1797-1853) by whom she had three children." Sources for the family information in "Let Virtue Be a Guide to Thee" are not given.
