1110. Philip SISSON Jr.-1364 (Philip , Thomas , Richard , James , Richard ) was born on 18 May 1764 in Tiverton, Newport Co., Rhode Island. He died in Sep 1817 in Indiana. He was buried in Gill's Prairie, Sullivan Co., Indiana.

Philip Sisson, Jr., was a member of the family which released the "Negro Jack" to fight in the American Revolution (see The Sisson Newsletter, v 8 #1). Philip was a ship builder and dealer in confiscated cargo. He had a half-brother Alvin Shepard. Philip and his wife Susannah (or Lusannah) Bowen were married by Judge Thomas Durfee at Freetown (later Troy), Massachusetts. Philip inherited land from his grandfather Thomas, on the Massachusetts-Rhode Island state line, seven miles from Fall River. They drove a cow across the state line to avoid paying a levy on the cow. The house had six bedrooms on the second floor, with a smokehouse above them. Downstairs was a keeping room, two parlors, a store room, bedroom, kitchen, pantry and hall. They had four slaves. In June 1813 the family moved to New York (probably State), then in 1816 they removed to Terra Haute, Indiana. Philip died in September 1817 in Indiana (death date given in "Report of Cases Argued and Determined in the Circuit Court of the United States," Fall Circuit, Rhode Island, November Term, 1832, at Providence, p. 235-236: In case "Philip Sisson and others v. Philip married (MRIN:900) Susannah BOWEN-2812, daughter of Nathan BOWEN-11781 and Hannah COOKE-12322 (MRIN:1511), on 16 Jan 1785 in Fall River, Bristol Co., Massachusetts. Susannah was born on 15 Feb 1768 in Fall River, Bristol Co., Massachusetts. She died after 1817 in Michigan.

Susannah Bowen Sisson returned to New York with the five youngest children after her husband Philip's death in Indiana. Later in life she lived with daughter Eliza Howland. The pair went to Michigan where most of Susannah's children lived. Clarry probably died an infant. It is not clear from the Sisson Newsletter, v.3, no.5, whether he (or she) was born in Tiverton, Bristol County, Rhode Island.

Daniel Jencks was appointed guardian for Phebe Sisson and her brother Philip 1 May 1819. Phebe and Ezekiel lived in Ithaca, Tompkins County, New York, at the time that her father Philip Sisson, Jr's, estate was being administered in 1833 and 1834.

Phebe married (MRIN:1527) Ezekiel S. RUSSELL-4798. Ezekiel was born about 1810.

1116. Daniel Anthony SISSON-1357 (Daniel , James , Richard , James , Richard ) was born on 23 Nov 1795 in Westport, Bristol Co., Massachusetts. He died on 27 Jan 1844. He was buried in Old McArthur Cemetery, McArthur, Vinton Co., Ohio.

On February 12, 1816, Daniel published intent to marry Fally Devol. Ten months later, a person named Fally Devol married Abner Tripp.

This is the Daniel Sisson mentioned in _History of Hocking Valley Ohio_ (1883), available at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~tfisher/hocking/hvhchap45.htm.

Daniel was an early settler in 1818 in Elk Township, Vinton Co., Ohio. In 1820 he made a trip up the Missouri River to Council Bluffs.

Daniel is in the 1840 census in Vinton County, Elk township, Ohio.

Daniel operated the "Raccoon Mill" (lumber?) and was owner/operator of a boat transferring goods on the Ohio River.

Daniel married (MRIN:890) Frances FULLER "Fannie"-31811, daughter of Thaddeus FULLER-31819, in 1824 in Hocking Valley, Ohio. Fannie was born in 1803 in New Hampshire Or Maine. She died on 4 Jan 1875 in Vinton Co., Ohio. She was buried in Old McArthur Cemetery, McArthur, Vinton Co., Ohio.

Fannie is in the 1850 census in Vinton County, Elk township, Ohio, as head of household.

Fannie was married to a William Harrison Kirby on May 20, 1819, in Athens Co., Ohio, part of which later became VInton County. She had a daughter Mahalia who was married under the last name of Kirby.

The 1850 federal census shows Jacob, a farmer worth $13,000 value; Henry T. Childer, 35, physician, Steven Palmer, 40, laborer, Maria Fowler, 45, and Abraham Reed 18, laborer in the household of Jacob. In the 1865 New York census Jacob is shown as a farmer with $3,000 value. Also in the household that year: Lemuel, 46, broker; Isaac, 35, farmer, and Barbara Gaston, 18, servant; Mavis Fowler, 60, servant; and Eughene Darling, 17, laborer. No wives are listed for the sons. Quaker records from Ninepartners Monthly Meeting, Dutchess County, New York, show "Removals: Jacob Sisson and Mary, from Ninepartners to Stanford, 21 of 7m [21st of September] 1825."

Jacob married (MRIN:880) Mary SOWLE-4834, daughter of Jonathan SOWLE-32242 and Bathsheba-32243 (MRIN:12021), on 25 Oct 1815. Mary was born in 1796. She died on 5 Dec 1870 in Nine Partners, Dutchess Co., New York.

From the Quaker Records, Creek Monthly Meeting House, Clinton, Dutchess Co., NY. Jacob Sisson son of Lemuel & Sarah of Washington married Mary Sowle daughter of Jonathan (dec.) & Bathsheba of Clinton on Oct. 26, 1815. Certificate to Nine Partners June 21, 1816 for Mary.
