OTHER INFORMATION
Seneca County was named for the Seneca Indian tribe which had a reservation within the boundaries of the county. The county also contained part of the Black Swamp, a huge marshland.
Tiffin, the county seat was named in honor of Ohio's first governor Dr. Edward Tiffin and founded in 1821. In 1850 the Ohio Synod of the Reformed church founded Heidelburg College. The discovery of natural gas in 1888 contributed greatly to Tiffin's industrial growth.
Probate Judge has birth, marriage & probate records; Clerk of Courts has divorce & civil court records from 1826; County Recorder has land records; County Health Department has death records.
