The source of this obituary is probably a bulletin of St. John's Lutheran Church, rather than a newspaper. The type-style and wording both lend to this impression.

Following is an obituary, which sounds as if it might have been in the bulletin of St. John's Lutheran Church rather than in a newspaper.

OBITUARY OF MR. FRED HILGENDORF
Another of our older members has passed to his eternal reward, Mr. Frederick Hilgendorf. He was born December 27, 1857, at Rakow in Pomerania, Germany. At the age of four years, he came with his parents to this country and lived at Thornton, Illinois. In 1868, the family moved on a farm near Buckley and affiliated with our congregation. The deceased was a member of the first class confirmed in our church and he died in the faith he then confessed.
In 1878, he was united in marriage to Miss Sophia Krumwiede, who on the 13th of June, 1932, preceded him in death. They lived a happy married life for over 50 years and were privileged to see all their children grow to manhood and womanhood. Two married daughters, Mrs. Marie Theesfeld and Mrs,. Emma Steinmann, passed before them into eternity. It was to them a pleasure to be privileged to give two of their sons to the Lord to serve Him in the holy ministry.
The deceased father, as long as he was able to work, was engaged in farming. Twenty years ago, he retired from farm life to spend his remaining days in this village. The Lord had blessed him with good health till the last year. The infirmities of old age caused him at times much inconvenience. Since the departure of his wife, he lived with his children who in love and kindness cared for him in his declining days and afforded him all possible comfort. Well prepared for a blessed end and comforted with God's Word, he fell asleep last Saturday evening and is now at home with the Savior as he had desired.
The deceased father was a sincere Christian and a respectable citizen. He loved to hear the Word of God and to take part in the works of the church. To the very last hour, he was privileged to hear the saving truth. Confessing his trust and hope in Christ, he died a peaceful death. The time of his earthly life numbers 77 years, 5 months and 18 days. His departure is mourned by his seven sons, three daughters, forty-eight grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. May he rest in peace.

He was buried on 20 Jun 1935 in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Buckley, Illinois.19,53 Section A, Row 20, Plot 37 This record was modified on 29 Mar 2003.
