Major

I would state that a few days before Maj. Genl. Hurlbut was relieved from command of the 16th Army Corps he ordered me to await the arrival of the 27th Regt Iowa Inft from the Red River expedition and then rejoin the regiment.

Believing that some time will elapse before the regiment can get here and knowing that I can be of service to my country at this time in Iowa, I would respectfully ask that I be detailed to procede to Davenport Iowa to report to Lt. Col. Wm M. Guin, Supt of Recruiting Service for such duty as he may assign.

I have the honor to be very
Respectfully your obt servt.
