included): The fiftieth wedding anniversary of a well known Scott County couple,
Mr. and Mrs. Amos Savage, residing south of Alsey, will be observed with Open
House from two to five o’clock Sunday afternoon, March 29 at their residence.
The observation is being arranged by the couple’s children. Mr. and Mrs. Savage
were married March 26, 1903 and have spent most of their married life in the
Alsey community. They have six children, Miss Ione and Miss Gladys Savage, at
home: Buell, Carl and Keith Savage living in the Alsey community, and Mrs. Lena
McEvers of Glasgow. Mr. Savage is 72 years old. He is the son of the late Mr.
and Mrs. Alvin Savage. Mrs. Savage is 67 years old and is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. John Day.

Clarence Savage, Retired Farmer, Dies
Clarence Savage, 68, Rt. 1, Winchester, died at his residence Monday evening,
Oct, 22, 1979. He was a retired farmer. Mr. Savage was born in Scott County
Oct. 14, 1911, son of Chester and Laura Sanders Savage. He married Zelma Barnett
in Winchester Nov. 22, 1930, and she survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Harold Lee (Claudine) Fearneyhough, Rt. 1,
Liberty; three grandchildren Donald and Paul Fearneyhough, both of rural
Winchester and Mary Ann Fearneyhough, rural Liberty; three great grandchildren;
and two sisters, Miss Hazel Savage, Alsey, and Mrs. Howard (Audrey) Northrop,
rural Roodhouse. Mr. Savage was a member of the Scott County Farm Bureau.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 25, 1979 at 2 p.m. at the Coonrod
Funeral Home in Winchester. Burial will be in Glasgow Cemetery.

Obituaries - Howard Northrop
Howard Northrop, 84, of Alsey died Monday morning, April 6, 1998 at Passavant
Area Hospital in Jacksonville. He was born Feb. 6, 1914, south of Alsey in
Scott County the son of Albert "Bert" and Elizabeth Moore Northrop. He married
Audrey Savage Feb. 5, 1938 in Palmyra, MO. Mr. Northrop farmed in the Scott
County area all of his life. He attended Keller county school, Alsey school and
graduated from Winchester High School. He was a member of the Scott County Farm
Bureau and the Alsey Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Audrey Northrop at home, a sister Alene Savage of
Winchester, Half sister Hazel Halter of Houston, Texas and several cousins,
nieces, and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Josephine Dunnagan, and a
brother, Basil Northrop.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, April 9, at the Alsey
Baptist Church. Burial will be in Glasgow Cemetery.
Friends may call after 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Coonrod Funeral Home in
Winchester where the family will meet with friends from 6 until 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Alsey Baptist Church or the Winchester
EMS.

Funeral services for Howard Northrop were held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 9,
1998, at the Alsey Baptist Church with the
Rev. David Arnold officiating.
The organist was Janet Slater, Vocalist Gayle McEvers sang "He Touched Me",
Vocalist Rodney Nicholson sang, "Amazing
Grace".
Pallbearers were Jeffrey Hanney, Rich George, Harold Jefferson, Don Savage,
Gerald Day and Keith Jefferson. Honorary
pallbearers were Donald Nicholson, Mancel Wilson, Lee Wells and Donald Haney.
Burial was at Glasgow Cemetery. The Coonrod Funeral Home was in charge of the
arrangements.

clipping that was not properly dated. Text: GLASGOW--Finis Savage, 66, died
Saturday morning at 4 o’clock at the Wood River Memorial Hospital at Wood River,
Ill., where he underwent a major surgical operation last Tuesday. He had been in
ill health for several months and was taken to the Wood River hospital last
Monday. He was a farmer and resided a mile north of Glasgow. Mr. Savage was born
near Glasgow in February, 1887 the son of the late Alvin and Melinda Savage and
spent his entire life in Glasgow. Surviving are the widow Jennie Savage of near
Glasgow; one son, Bryce Savage, a Korean War veteran who was recently discharged
from service; two daughters, Mrs. Finez LeBlanc of Cottage Hill, Ill., and Mrs.
Janice Whitehead of Roodhouse; four grandchildren; two brothers, Amos Savage of
Alsey and Chester Savage of near Glasgow. One brother and two sisters preceded
him in death. The body was taken to the Cunningham Funeral Home in Winchester.
Funeral arrangements have not been completed

Obituaries - Janice I. Whitehead-Pace
Janice I. Whitehead-Pace, 70, of Godfrey, died Friday evening, Jan. 16, 1998, at
D'Adrian Convalescent Center in Godfrey.
She was born Feb. 28, 1927, in Alton, the daughter of Finis H. and Jennie
McLamarah Savage. She married William Whitehead on Sept. 21, 1945, in Alton, and
he preceded her in death on July 4, 1983. She then married George (Jack) Pace on
March 16, 1985, in Alton, and he survives. She is also survived by one son,
William Whitehead of Elsah; one daughter, Marlinda Birkner of Godfrey; five
grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Bryce Savage of Farmington,
MO.; and one sister, Finez LaBlanc of Cottage Hills.
Mrs. Whitehead-Pace was a member of the First Christian Church of Alton. She was
also a member of the Alton VFW Auxiliary and the Heartland Quilters Guild in
Wood River. She was an accountant for Sears and Roebuck in Alson and later for
Owens Illinois Glass in Alton, retiring in 1984.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Coonrod Funeral Home in
Winchester. The Rev. Bob Williams officiated.
Joann Garrett sang "Amazing Grace", accompanied by organist Shelly Kirbach and
Gayle McEvers sang "In The Garden", also accompanied by Shelly Kirbach.
Pallbearers were Bill Whitehead, Bryce Whitehead, Rod LeBlanc, Chris Myers,
Phillip Bognar and Craig Price. Burial was in the Glasgow Cemetery in Glasgow.
The Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Roodhouse was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.

The body was removed to the Cunningham Funeral Home and will be taken to the residence of a son John Farmer, northwest of Winchester. Services will be held at 2 PM Thursday at the Patterson Baptist Church. Burial will be in Lovelace Cemetery between Patterson and Glasgow.
